CHAPTER 3
TASKS PERFORMED
Introduction
Company have provided internship in 3D printing technology which is also called
as the next industrial revolution. This internship helped me in imparting new skills to
myself by learning different software’s. Completed all the tasks and learnings with the
assistance of a trainer.

3.1 First Week

• First day we met with company CEO Mr. Raghavendra Surendra. He took few
hours and explains about the company and it’s working culture.
• Later-on Mr. Subramanya, one of the Prototype Engineer of the company and also
the trainer explained everything about the machinery how it works.and the
operation related to that machine. Then we started to look in to the processes and
the operations which are carried out.
• Then the next day I was asked to design any material using any designing
software.
• I had designed a helmet using catiav5 software as I had a knowledge about it.
• First the trainer started off with the introductory part and steps involved in the 3D
printing process. Steps involved are mentioned below fig 3.1
• The next day the trainer explained about the processes of 3D printing which is
also called as additive layer manufacturing and its classifications according to
ASTM standard of F2792. The classifications are shown below fig.3.2
• On the last day of the week the trainer explained about the various application of
3D printing. The applications are shown below fig 3.3

3D Printing- The Next Industrial Revolution

3.2 Second week

• Learnt a new designing software called Sketchup Pro 2020.
• Learnt how to use all the tools contained in the software.
• Practiced different designs using the software.
• Our trainer evaluated and guided each mistake and also told how to overcome
mistakes.
• Below mentioned are the designs done using Sketchup Pro 2020 software.

3D Printing- The Next Industrial Revolution

3.3 Third Week

• During third week the trainer introduced a new software called Ultimaker cura which
is also called as slicing or layering software.
• This software is used in slicing the component that has to be printed and also at the
end of slicing function the software shows the timing and length of material required
for 3D printing.
• The whole week we learnt about the tools and usage of the software.
• Below mentioned are the pictures of slicing the designed software.

3D Printing- The Next Industrial Revolution

3.4 Fourth Week

• In the fourth week I was given an exposure on further design components which
adopts supporting structures like cantilever beams etc.
• Throughout the week the trainer helped me with exposure to various designs and
slicing of designed materials like Eiffel tower, eagle model etc.
• At the end of the week, an exam was conducted to make sure the students have
gained sufficient knowledge about the internship and based on marks the
certificate was issued.
• At-last a presentation was given on the topic “3D PRINTING, THE NEXT
INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION”.

Department of Mechanical Engineering, KIT Mangalore 11

CHAPTER 4

OUTCOMES
• Current technology used in the 3D printing industry.
• Learnt the main software’s Sketchup pro 2020 and Ultimaker Cura which is
used in the 3D printing industry.
• Practiced many number of designs and simulated slicing for that design.
• Simulated slicing operation of assigned design for contactless door opener and
face shield frame.
• Learnt the main terms, tools and concepts which are used in the software.
• Learnt basic machine operation and performed basic work in the machines.
• Performed basic work which is assigned for me in the industry like calculating
material length for printing and calculating average production time using
Ultimaker Cura software.
• Learnt to design different components which could come handy in industries.
• Virtual hands-on experience for different processes.

3D Printing- The Next Industrial Revolution

CONCLUSION
Aakruthi 3D Private Limited is a manufacturing and production company situated
in Shimoga, Karnataka. This industry basically produces many 3D printed products which
are transported to industries like Aerospace, medical sector, fashion and retail,
construction and architecture, automotive etc. This company also imparting "Industrial
Training" to engineering students to enable the building engineers to be productive in
their career. Aakruthi 3D will be the center of many Mechanical Engineering Start-ups &
Incubators. Along with production it also gives the industrial training for the engineering
students with respect to 3D printing that will be very necessary for the students in the
future, with this company students will be industry ready in 3D printing technology.

Aakruthi3D also gives internship opportunity for the engineering students so that
the students can directly acquire the core knowledge of the company. This company will
give the knowledge of software which they are using in their industry and also about the
3D printing which is the main heart of this industry.

This company also similar to the other companies which will face consequences if
the products have any defects or if it is not transported on time. They should do quality
check, testing before packing. Here Ultimaker Cura software plays a very important role
through that software only slicing of specific part has been done and that component is
manufactured using 3dexter machine.

Company is having activities on quality management, customer service and

manufacturing process. Freshers will learn better knowledge from this company it will
give a better carrier for the freshers. That knowledge will help them to get a better-
opportunities in the future.
