Discuss the curriculum of teacher education in Pakistan.

Answer

Curriculum of teacher education

The curriculum of teachers training institutions and colleges of education is designed to
provide potential teachers with an all-around comprehensive education. Their role is to mix
general and professional courses with a subject-matter foundation as well as the art of teaching.
The majority of colleges provide three to five-year teacher education programs.

Every teacher training program includes following three basic constituents;

General Education
Professional Education
Specialization in a particular field

General Education
Most colleges teach prospective teachers General Education for at least two years in
order to prepare them for a fitting role in modern society. In the case of future teachers, such
education should attempt to advance the development of information, skills, attitudes, and
interests that are profoundly tied to the demands and responsibilities shared with contemporary
contemporaries destined for other occupations. The similar thing has been advocated in national
teacher professional standards. It is divided into two parts:

Theory teaching
Practice teaching.

The teacher must gain sufficient information, abilities, interests, and attitudes toward the
teaching profession. Because of new psychological, philosophical, and sociological ideas, as well
as modern media and materials, the teacher's job has become more sophisticated and technical.
With well-planned, inventive preserve and in-service training programs, teachers can become
proficient.

Professional Education
Professional Education, often known as student teaching or practice teaching, is typically
taught in the latter stages of professional courses taken by student teachers, either at the
University Campus's Laboratory School or in ordinary public schools. It includes lesson
observation, participation in criticism or discussion sessions, and finally actual classroom
teaching under the expert supervision of supervisors who are members of the College of
University faculty. Practice teaching is also known as internship in teaching on the Medical
College internship pattern. It envisions student teachers working for eight or nine weeks straight
under the supervision of one or more senior instructors from the partnering school.

Specialization in particular field

Educationists believe that mastery of the subject that the learners' instructor is required to
teach is critical. Without this mastery, one cannot convey proper and full knowledge to his
students. As a result, the student instructors must become proficient in the subject or disciplines
of their choice. In many institutions, the recent tendency is toward specialization in integrated
disciplines or subjects such as social sciences, languages, general science, and so on, in
accordance with the school curriculum.

career in teaching and have not yet begun working as teachers. These programs are usually
offered at the bachelor's and master's levels. The curriculum typically includes:

These programs aim to enhance their teaching skills and keep them updated with new
pedagogical approaches and content knowledge. The curriculum might include:

1

teaching strategies, assessment methods, and classroom management techniques.
