In an effort to fulfill the rights of all children to education, health and nutrition, the Ateneo Law School, in cooperation

with the other units of the Ateneo Professional Schools and the Ateneo Center for Educational Development have embarked on a large scale and long term feeding program, dubbed Blueplate for Better Learning, in four elementary schools in Quezon City (Commonwealth Elementary School, Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School, Doa Juana Elementary School and San Diego Elementary School). The program hopes to address the fundamental need to nourish children and improve their academic performance. While the government focuses on other areas of education such as lack of teachers, classrooms and text books, the issue of malnutrition is being overlooked. Focus group discussions and home visits conducted by the organizers reveal that a significant percentage of the students of the beneficiary schools are malnourished and are not able to eat breakfast in order to attend their classes. Also, limited family budget restricts their food options. But it takes only Php11.50 per day to feed a child a nutritious meal, improve academic performance, and build a better future.
