​A conjunction starts a clause.

Sometimes, the clause with a conjunction only goes in second position​:

E.g.

In Bilbao, the winters are cold, but the summers are warm​.

Manchester has two rivers and a canal.​

The tickets are too expensive so I can't go.​

Sometimes, the clause with a conjunction can go in first​ or second position​:

E.g.

After he goes shopping​, he likes to have a cup of tea.​

He likes to have a cup of tea​ after he goes shopping.​

This is also true for: before, until, because.
