Work Scope for Freelancer: Hydropower Turbine Control Logic

Development

Project Overview: We are seeking an experienced automation engineer or systems integrator

to develop a control logic program for our hydropower turbine system using a Delta PLC.
The goal is to optimize turbine performance by adjusting RPM and blade angles based on
power output and water level, ensuring safe and efficient operation. The program will also
include emergency handling for flood and vibration conditions.

System Description:

 Turbine Type: Vertical Shaft Turbine

 Control Components:
o Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) for RPM modulation
o Blade angle mechanism with linear encoder (RS485)
o Fixed guidevanes
o Sluice gate for intake control

Inputs and Outputs:

 Inputs:
o RPM signal from Encoder
o Water Level signal from Pressure Sensor (Analog Input)
o Blade Angle signal from Linear Encoder (RS485)
o Vibration Sensor (RS485)
o Power Output from VFD (RS485)
 Outputs:
o VFD Control Signal
o Blade Angle Actuator
o Sluice Gate Control

Control Logic Requirements:

1. Initialization and Startup:

o Set initial conditions.
o Ramp up PMG to nominal RPM.
o Sample initial water level and start PID control for power output and water
level.
2. Nominal Operation:
o Adjust RPM using PID based on power output from the VFD.
o Monitor and adjust water level using PID to maintain stability.
o Switch to blade angle control if RPM falls below 40% of nominal.
o Maintain a loop to periodically sample water level and power output every 120
seconds and adjust accordingly.
3. Emergency Handling:
o Flood Emergency: Close sluice gate if water level exceeds 130% of nominal
within 120 seconds.
o Vibration Emergency: Close sluice gate and use PMG as a brake if vibration
levels indicate severe imbalance.
Deliverables:

1. Complete ladder logic/function block program for the described control sequences.
2. Detailed documentation of the control logic and implementation steps.
3. Simulation or test results verifying the functionality of the control logic.
4. Support during initial testing and commissioning.

Submission Requirements:

 Examples of similar projects you have completed.

Additional project scope:

Reprogramming and reverse engineering of a turbine controller. Current system uses a

Revolution PI that we want to replace with standard Delta components. The job is to analyze
the control logic and implement it in the Delta environment.
