1. Introduction
 We spend (1/3) one third of our income for our vehicle fuelling and
in return vehicle gives harmful smoke.

 These particulars are all effects of the engine’s performance and

pollute the environment. It is explicit that we waste fuel and pollute
the atmosphere.

 To avoid these, a thought was given to add an alternative secondary

fuel.

2. Literature Review
Al-Rousan et al. [1] ➢ Explained that studies on the electrolytic separation of water into
hydrogen and oxygen.
➢ He also described a long-term hydrogen-based scenario of the
global energy system in qualitative and quantitative terms
illustrating the key role of hydrogen in a long term transition
toward a clean and sustainable energy future.
El Kassaby et. al. [2] ➢ The HHO cell was designed, fabricated and optimized for
maximum HHO gas productivity per input power.
➢ Proposed most efficient construction of cell.

Arat et. al. [3] ➢ Conducted research experiments on Hydroxyl (HHO; Oxy-
hydrogen) - CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) fuel mixtures using
it as an additional fuels in a non- modified diesel engine via intake
manifold by substitution of diesel fuel.

➢ The addition of HHO-CNG mixture has a positive effect of

combustion process enhancement. Brake torque, brake power and
brake thermal efficiency outputs are improved in connection with
the combustion characteristics of hydrogen and natural gas.

3.Objective

• This project involves the design and construction of a

simple HHO generation dry system and its testing with the
IC engine.

• Experimentally test the effect on fuel consumption and

exhaust emissions like HC, CO, CO2 and O2 after adding
HHO gas.

• The mileage increasing by 50% of a gasoline engine will be

evaluated using HHO as a secondary fuel.

Design calculations
• Generator has 10 cm plates and 12.5 mm wide rubber gaskets.
• The total area is 10cm*10cm= 100cm^2.
• The active area is 7.5cm*7.5cm= 56.25cm^2.
• The 56.25 cm^2 number must be used for calculations.
• Micheal faraday also demonstrated that electrolysis cells can support
up to 0.084 amps per square cm without overheating. This is standard
used to design a HHO generation
Therefore,
56.25*0.084= 4.725amp
or
4.5/0.084= 53.57 cm^2
√53.57= 7.31cm

11
 The number of plates is also very important. Too few and the generator
will have poor HHO production and overheat. Too many plates and the
generator may not work at all.

 For 12 volt vehicles, the ideal number of plates is seven, which creates
six electrolysis cells within the generator.

 As a mathematical simplification of Faraday’s laws, a 7 plate generator

will produce 64 ml/minute of HHO per 1 amp of current.

 So, the generator in our example will have a maximum output of 0.302
LPM (64 ml x 4.725 amps)

8.Conclusion
 The use of HHO in gasoline engines enhances combustion
efficiency, consequently reducing fuel consumption and
thereby decreasing pollution. HHO cell can be integrated
easily with existing engine systems.
 The concentration of CO gas has been reduced to almost 15-
30 % on an average.
 The concentration of HC gas has been reduced to almost 5-
15 % on an average.
 The mileage of the of the engine was seen to be increased by
about 21.22%.
 The proposed design for reservoir cum bubbler takes into
consideration the safety precautions needed when dealing
with hydrogen fuel.
