Module No. 4
Module Title: PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING
Name of Student: PAULA ANGELIE M. ERRAZO
Date Submitted: MAY 25, 2024

My Reflections:

1. Differentiate between nonprogrammable and programmable decisions.

- Nonprogrammable decisions are those that are unique, complex, and unstructured,
requiring a high degree of creativity, judgment, and expertise. These decisions cannot be
made using a predetermined set of rules or procedures. In contrast, programmable
decisions are those that are routine, structured, and repetitive, and can be made using a
predetermined set of rules or procedures. Examples of nonprogrammable decisions
include developing a new curriculum, hiring a new teacher, or responding to a crisis.
Examples of programmable decisions include processing payroll, grading assignments, or
scheduling classes.

2. Explain the step involved in making a nonprogrammable decision.

- Making a nonprogrammable decision involves several steps. First, the decision-maker

must define the problem or opportunity and gather relevant information. This may involve
consulting with stakeholders, conducting research, and analyzing data. Next, the
decision-maker must generate alternative solutions and evaluate their potential
consequences. This may involve brainstorming, consulting with experts, or using
decision-making tools and techniques. After evaluating the alternatives, the decision-
maker must select the best solution and implement it. Finally, the decision-maker must
monitor the results and adjust the solution as needed.

3. Give the major factors that influence decision making in organizations.

- Several major factors influence decision-making in organizations. These factors include

individual differences, such as personality, values, and cognitive style; group dynamics,
such as communication, collaboration, and power relations; organizational culture, such
as norms, values, and beliefs; and environmental factors, such as competition,
technology, and regulation. Understanding these factors can help decision-makers to
make more informed and effective decisions.

4. Explain the nature of creativity and how it contributes to managerial work. Point out some
several suggestions for becoming a more creative problem solver.

- Creativity is the ability to generate novel and useful ideas, solutions, or products.
Creativity is essential in managerial work because it enables decision-makers to identify
and solve problems, seize opportunities, and innovate. To become a more creative
problem solver, individuals can engage in several practices, such as:
 Encouraging curiosity and exploration by seeking out new experiences, ideas, and
perspectives.
 Practicing mindfulness and reflection by taking time to think, observe, and reflect
on one's thoughts and actions.
 Cultivating a growth mindset by believing that one's abilities and intelligence can
be developed and improved through effort and learning.
 Collaborating with others by sharing ideas, providing feedback, and building on
each other's strengths.
 Embracing ambiguity and uncertainty by tolerating risk, experimenting with new
approaches, and learning from failure.

By practicing these habits, individuals can enhance their creativity and become more
effective problem solvers in their personal and professional lives.
