PLAN FOR DENGUE PREVENTION AT WVMC

SHARED VISION
By 2026, at least 90% of WVMC employees champion dengue awareness, prevention, and management.

At WVMC, we envision a future where our employees are at the forefront of Dengue Prevention and Management. Our hospitals are safe
havens where patients receive compassionate care and support, and our communities are empowered with knowledge to prevent the
spread of this deadly disease. Guided by our core values of integrity, accountability, compassion and transparency, we are committed to
providing the highest standard of care and working tirelessly to achieve our goals. We believe in the power of compassion, treating every
dengue patient with empathy and understanding.

Our commitment to excellence drives us to continuously improve our skills and resources, ensuring prompt and effective diagnosis and
treatment. Collaboration is our strength; by working together across departments and disciplines, we can better understand and address
the challenges of dengue prevention and management. Our vision extends beyond hospital walls. We are advocates for dengue
prevention in our communities, empowering our neighbors with knowledge and resources to fight against dengue. We strive to enhance
patient care, develop innovative solutions, and build capacity within our staff through ongoing education and training.

Through concerted efforts, we will implement mosquito control measures, conduct awareness campaigns, and collaborate with local
health authorities to strengthen surveillance and reporting. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by dengue,
contributing to a healthier, dengue-free Western Visayas for generations to come.

There is a notable prevalence of dengue cases from 2023 to 2024, with a potential increase expected in the second
half of 2024 due to the onset of the rainy season. Urbanization, high population density, and inadequate sanitation in
many areas exacerbate the spread of the disease. The warm and humid weather provides an ideal environment for
mosquitoes, leading to recurrent dengue outbreaks. The region has experienced a high number of dengue cases
over the past decade, with periodic spikes often overwhelming healthcare facilities.
