India’s ESG Regulatory Framework – BRSR, it’s evolution


Year Event
Ministry of Corporate Affairs (“MCA”) issued the National Voluntary Guidelines (“NGVs”)
2009
on CSR.

SEBI mandated the top 100 listed companies by market capitalization to file BRR based

on the NGVs along with their annual reports.

2014 CSR was mandated and CSR Rules came into force.

2015 BRR was extended by SEBI to the top 500 listed companies by market capitalisation.

2019 MCA released the NGBRC.
