Dear Sir,
APPEAL FOR CHURCH BUILDING PROJECT SUPPORT
We are making this appeal on behalf of the worshipping faithful of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Chaplaincy, Awgu, NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Awgu. There are obvious needs to
construct a Church building with a conducive space for worship. While at the moment we
manage a makeshift structure, we need your assistance to erect a moderate but conducive
place of worship.
The Blessed Virgin Mary Chaplaincy, Awgu is the name for the church that attends to the
pastoral/spiritual needs of Prospective Corps Members, Corps Members and NYSC officials
during the annual NYSC orientation courses and from there moderate the pastoral care
initiatives for Serving Corps members.
This orientation camp is the oldest camp in Nigeria, but the church structure we use is below
the ideal. Given the meagre resources at our disposal and the financial disposition of the youth
who are its primary targets, not so much has been achieved as regard a befitting structure.
Hence the motivation for extending appeals beyond our confines. It is our hope that a
conducive atmosphere for the celebration of the sacraments and sharing of doctrines will go a
long way in nurturing the spiritual and moral lives of young men and women from all over the
country who gather in this preparatory ground at various times every year to begin their
national service year experience.
