Create an audio-visual presentation that is no longer than FOUR minutes in length


in response to the following:

“Composers shape texts in memorable ways in order to illuminate the unique


experiences of others.”

Discuss this statement with reference to a related text (poem) and ONE poem from
the Selected Poetry of Kenneth Slessor, comparing and contrasting the two texts.

YR 12 ENGLISH ASSESSMENT TASK 1 – Texts and Human Experiences

Multimodal Presentation (15 marks)

Create an audio-visual presentation that is no longer than FOUR minutes in


length in response to the following:

“Composers shape texts in memorable ways in order to illuminate the unique


experiences of others.”

Discuss this statement with reference to a related text (poem) and ONE poem
from the Selected Poetry of Kenneth Slessor, comparing and contrasting the
two texts.

You must find and analyse a poem by yourself, and compare and contrast this
related text to a poem by Kenneth Slessor.

In your response, ensure you address the following areas:


a) What is the text about? What type of Human Experience is depicted in the
text?

b) The techniques that have been used to convey ideas about Human
Experience.

c) The ways in which the text links with the selected poetry of Kenneth
Slessor (e.g. theme, techniques, type of Human Experience, context,
persona’s response to the Human Experience). You must make at least TWO
clear and developed references to the poems. Your analysis should be

approximately 50% based on the related text and approximately 50% on


Kenneth Slessor’s poetry.

d) How this text shapes/enhances your understanding of Human Experience?

An integral element of your presentation is its visual representation. You should use
features such as a header image, creative and conceptual title, images,
subheadings.

Use Powerpoint, Google Slides or any other presentation platform to convey your
analysis of the additional text.

The presentation must contain between 8-10 slides.

Human Experience.
● Highly effective presentation with appropriate language forms and features as
outlined in the task

● Text is clearly appropriate, with a response demonstrating a well developed
understanding of the concept of Human Experiences.
● A strong link between the text and the selected poetry of Kenneth Slessor is
established and discussed in an insightful manner
● A well developed discussion of features – identifies key features and examples, 10-12
effective analysis relating to Human Experience.
● Effective presentation with appropriate language forms and features as outlined in
the task

● Text and discussion reflect a sound understanding of ideas about Human
