Course Description
The course is intended for all engineering students to have a firm foundation on differential equations
in preparation for their degree-specific advanced mathematics courses. It covers the first order
differential equations, nth order linear differential equations and system of first order linear differential
equations. The students are expected to be able to recognize the different kinds of differential
equations, determine the existence and uniqueness of solution, select the appropriate methods of
solution and interpret the obtained solution. Students are also expected to relate the differential
equations to various practical engineering and scientific problems as well as employ computer
technology in solving and verifying solutions.

Course Learning Outcomes

CLO1: Identify the type of differential equation based on the number of independent variables, order
and degree of a D.E.
CLO2: Solve the different kinds of first-order first degree ordinary differential equations.
CLO3: Apply the concepts in solving problems related to engineering, economics and geometrical
situations.
CLO4: Generate the roots of an auxiliary equation exhausting all the different approaches of solving
Polynomials.
CLO5: Solve higher order homogeneous differential equations using algebraic principles.
