PURPOSE

• The basic purpose of the flaps is to

vary the camber of the wing section.
The greater the mean camber is, the
greater the lift capability of the wing
would be.

FLAP LEVER
NOTE :-
The landing gear horn is inter-connected
with the flap system. When the flap
lever is set at appx 70% or more with
landing gear in any position other than
fully extended, the landing gear horn
will blow and it cannot be silenced until
landing gear is down and locked or the
flap lever is retracted above 70%.

FLAP SYSTEM FAILURE
WARNING

If an outboard flap fails, it is possible that contact

between the flap and aileron will result in binding, and
restriction of movement of the aileron. Under these
conditions, if it is possible to control the airplane, no
attempt should be made to move the flaps. If
movement of the flaps must be attempted, return them
in increments of 10 percent toward the position last
selected before failure. During flap movement, check
aileron control constantly. If aileron control is freed, or
if it is noted that binding increases, stop flap
movement immediately.
WARNING
Protection against asymmetrical operation is
provided only during normal hydraulic flap
operation. Should a failure of flap drive
torque tubes occur during override or
mechanical operation, resulting in a change
in trim about the roll axis, stop flap
movement immediately. Return the
controllable flaps to the position assumed by
the uncontrollable flaps.
ELECTRICAL CONTROL FAILURE
If the circuit breaker is in, or if resetting the circuit
breaker does not clear the trouble:

1. Pull wing flap control circuit breaker.

2. Place flap lever in the desired position.

this will assure proper rudder boost press.

3. Remove utility hydraulic panel cover.

• Crewmember accomplishing this operation will

remain in communication with the flight station.
Contd!
4. Lower or raise flaps to desired position.

• Depress lower or raise button

intermittently on the flap selector valve

moving the flaps in approx 10 percent

increments, until flaps are fully lowered

or raised, or until directed by pilot to

stop.
MANUAL OPERATION
WING

FLAP

MANUAL

DRIVE
LOSS OF HYDRAULIC PRESSURE
1. Pull wing flap control circuit breaker

2. Place flap lever in the desired position

3. Turn off no.1 and no.2 EDPs and the utility

suction boost pump. Deplete utility system
hydraulic pressure.

4. Engage hand crank on input shaft

5. Hold hand crank firmly to prevent rotation

6.Remove input shaft pin

7. Engage the manual extension system

8. Move the flap lever to the desired position

9. Replace input shaft pin

10. Remove and stow the handcrank

11. Leave manual shift handle out

12.Return pressure to utility hydraulic system

(unless hydraulic pressure is not available).

Turn on utility suction boost pump, and no.1

and no.2 engine-driven hydraulic pumps

SHIFT FROM MANUAL TO
HYDRAULIC DRIVE
1.Rotate the manual shift handle clock-
wise against its stop, and push in as far
as possible.
2.Remove the pin in the input shaft, and
rotate the shaft with the hand crank.
the shaft should turn freely, indicating
that the manual drive has disengaged
3.Replace the pin in the input shaft, and
remove the hand crank and return it to
the stowed position.
4.Place the flap lever to correspond with
the position of the flaps.
5.Reset the wing flap control cb
CAUTION
When the wing flap control lever is first moved after shifting

from manual to hydraulic actuation, observe the utility

hydraulic system pressure and the wing flap position

indicator. A drop in pressure with no result in flap movement

indicates a failure of the flap drive to re-engage. If this

happens, immediately return the wing flap lever to its original

position and pull the wing flap control circuit breaker. Iif

these steps are not observed, serious damage to the wing

flap drive could result

ASYMMETRICAL FLAP
POSITIONING
Should flap movement stop before the flaps have

reached the position desired, failure of the flaps to

move in either direction may be due to

engagement of the emergency flap brake. The flap

handle should be positioned to correspond to the

position of the flaps, and no further in flight

movement of the flaps should be attempted.
