BERNOULLI EQUATION:
2 2
P1 /ϒ + V1 /2g + Z1 = P2 /ϒ + V2 /2g + Z2 + HL
The pressure head at intake and at the forebay are considered zero due to
atmospheric pressure. Also, their velocity heads are also considered zero
since reservoir is large and the water is stationary
HL=Z1-Z2 Eq. 1
HL = hf + hm

hf = 6.35n2LV2/D4/3 head loss (Manning's formula)

hm = (ke + kex + kb)V2/2g minor losses

Velocity Transformed V=4Q/πD2

Substitute all in Eq. 1 to obtain Working formula

[(6.35n L/D ) +(ke+kex+kb)/2g](4Q/πD )

2 4/3 2 2
= Z1-Z2
Z1-Z2 Eq.3

[(6.35n L/D ) +(ke+kex+kb)/2g](4Q/πD )

2 4/3 2 2

Value of Eq3 = 3.3 m

Value of Eq4 = 2.59 m
Compute the initial value of diameter using the assumed value of friction coefficient, f
The minimum computed diameter od the pipe is 1.60 m
The initial velocity of water is 1.870 m/sec2
Comparing the values of eq. Eq 4 = Eq 3
If value of Eq4 is less than or equal to Eq3 2.59 3.30 Adopt value of "D"
it is considered safe
