Responsibility of Copyholders
It is the responsibility of the registered copyholder of controlled hard copy versions to
maintain the accuracy of the document by ensuring that all updates are promptly
incorporated and acknowledged.
Furthermore, the registered copyholder of controlled hard copy versions must at all times
maintain custody of this document unless prior approval is given by the relevant
Technical Authority.

of the Document Control Procedure (UKCS-DCM-001).
The Health and Safety Executive document Health and Safety in Engineering Workshops
(HSG 129) has been issued to provide guidance in supporting the safe establishment and
running of engineering workshops, including equipment, environment and workshop practices.
The document can be obtained from all good bookshops.
The document covers equipment and practices which may be expected to be found in
traditional engineering workshops, such as lathes, pedestal drills and grinding machines etc.
It also covers activities which might be housed in temporary areas, such as painting and
sheet-metal work. In addition, it also includes relevant guidance, where applicable, on overlaps
with current legislation such as Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER),
Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) and Control of Substances
Hazardous to Health (COSHH) etc.
It is BP policy to adopt the guidance detailed within this publication in its workshops, both
permanent and temporary, at all UK Upstream Region locations. However, in instances where a
