and mutations present in tumor samples. This information helps in identifying potential
therapeutic targets and designing personalized treatment approaches.

 Genetic counselors use the Genetic Analyzer 3500 to analyze patient DNA samples and
provide accurate information regarding genetic disorders, inheritance patterns, and potential
risks for individuals and their families. This information assists in making informed decisions
about family planning and managing genetic conditions.

Instrument Name: Quant studio 8 Real Time PCR

(location: Multidisciplinary research unit (MRU), 7th Floor Millennium Block)

 Real-time PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is widely used in clinical laboratories for the
diagnosis of various infectious diseases. It allows for the rapid and accurate detection of
pathogens, such as viruses or bacteria, in patient samples like blood, urine, or respiratory
secretions.

 Real-time PCR is utilized in genetic testing to identify genetic variations and mutations
associated with inherited disorders or genetic predispositions to diseases. It enables the
detection of specific genetic sequences or variations in an individual's DNA.

Instrument name: FACS (Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorting)
(location: Stem cell lab, 6th Floor Millennium Block)

 FACS (Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorting) is widely used in immunophenotyping, which

involves identifying and characterizing specific cell populations based on their surface
markers. It enables researchers and clinicians to analyze and quantify different immune cell
types, such as T cells, B cells, and natural killer cells, providing valuable information about the
immune system's status and response.

 FACS plays a crucial role in stem cell research and therapy. It enables the isolation and
purification of specific stem cell populations, such as hematopoietic stem cells or
mesenchymal stem cells, based on specific surface markers. This technique helps in studying
stem cell biology, characterizing their differentiation potential, and developing novel
regenerative therapies.

 FACS is instrumental in the field of transplantation medicine. It enables the crossmatching of

donor and recipient cells, ensuring compatibility and reducing the risk of transplant rejection.
Additionally, it allows for the analysis of immune cell populations post-transplantation to
monitor graft function and detect signs of rejection or complications.

Instrument name: MR SPOT HLA TYPING
(location: Stem cell lab, 6th Floor Millennium Block)

 The MR.SPOT HLA typing instrument is used to determine the HLA genotype of both
donors and recipients. By comparing the HLA profiles, healthcare professionals can
identify compatible matches for successful organ and tissue transplantation.

 HLA matching is particularly critical in bone marrow and stem cell transplantation. The
MR.SPOT HLA typing instrument helps determine the compatibility between the
donor's and recipient's HLA alleles, minimizing the risk of graft rejection and improving
the success rate of the transplant.

 The MR.SPOT HLA typing instrument facilitates immunogenetics research by providing

accurate and high-throughput HLA typing. Researchers can study the impact of HLA
variation on immune responses, host-pathogen interactions, and immunological
diseases.

Instrument name: CO2 incubator
(location: Stem cell lab, 6th Floor Millennium Block)

 CO2 incubators are primarily used in cell culture laboratories to provide an optimal
environment for cell growth and proliferation. The controlled temperature, humidity, and
CO2 levels within the incubator create conditions similar to the human body, allowing cells to
thrive and replicate. This is essential for various applications such as cell-based assays, drug
discovery, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine.

Instrument Name: Bio safety cabinet
(location: Stem cell lab, 6th Floor Millennium Block)

 Biosafety cabinets are commonly employed in tissue culture and cell biology labs for the
sterile handling and propagation of cell lines. The cabinet provides a clean workspace to
prevent contamination and maintain the integrity of cell cultures, which are essential for cell-
based assays, cell therapies, and regenerative medicine research.

 Biosafety cabinets are crucial in genetic and molecular biology laboratories, where
researchers work with DNA, RNA, and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The cabinet
ensures a sterile and controlled environment for procedures such as DNA amplification (PCR),
gene cloning, gene expression studies, and recombinant DNA technology.
