Introduction to the Universe of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public

Edition
 Note
"SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition" refers to an offering that includes the technical product SAP S/4HANA Cloud as the
main component and a large variety of surrounding services.

When you sign a subscription contract for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition (for example, after subscribing to RISE with SAP
or GROW with SAP), you don't only get the technical product SAP S/4HANA Cloud, but rather an entire environment that
contains additional products and services designed to support your business processes. The environment that you receive is
modular; this means that it contains some default products that are necessary for the standard functions, while other products
are optional, and their inclusion depends on your business requirements. You can use SAP for Me to get an overview of the
products and services to which you're entitled.

 Tip
RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud brings together the solutions and services that you need to transform your business, all in
one package and with one contract. RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud helps you to integrate data, technologies, and software,
all tailored to the speci c needs of your company. This is particularly bene cial if your company wants to move to SAP, but
has a smaller IT footprint or budget. SAP S/4HANA Cloud is simply one part of the RISE with SAP solution; for more
information, see RISE with SAP .

SAP S/4HANA Cloud is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) product, which means that the software is licensed on a subscription
basis and is accessed via the Internet. SAP takes care of many tasks for you, such as installation and upgrades, so that you can
concentrate more on your business. If you would like to know more about SAP S/4HANA Cloud, SAP Help Portal contains a
dedicated page with detailed documentation about the available features, implementation, links to training materials, and
more: SAP S/4HANA Cloud on SAP Help Portal.

This document gives you an overview of the overall SAP S/4HANA Cloud environment and its concepts, including information on
how to get started, delivery of innovations, integration with other products, and support.

Getting Started with the Universe of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public

Edition
The ideal way to get started with the universe of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition is by using SAP Activate Roadmap Viewer.
Its roadmaps guide you through the implementation of SAP S/4HANA Cloud by listing and explaining the various activities that
you need to carry out, divided into phases in accordance with the SAP Activate methodology.

Preparation
SAP S/4HANA Cloud provides many features to support your company's business processes. If you are interested in purchasing
SAP S/4HANA Cloud, we can match your business processes to these features. In the Prepare phase of the SAP Activate
roadmap, the initial planning and preparation for the project is carried out; we perform an initial business process assessment
with you, using questionnaires to give us an understanding of your business that will be used in the planning and the execution
of t-to-standard workshops (see Exploring SAP S/4HANA Cloud below). In this phase, you also receive access to an SAP
S/4HANA Cloud starter system, which will be used in the t-to-standard workshops. For more information on receiving access to
your starter system, see SAP S/4HANA Cloud Starter System or SAP S/4HANA Cloud Starter System: Customizing Tenant and
Development Tenant, depending on your system landscape.

 Note
For more information about system landscapes and the differences between them, see System Landscapes in SAP
S/4HANA Cloud.

Exploring SAP S/4HANA Cloud

In the Explore phase of the SAP Activate roadmap, you take part in t-to-standard workshops, in which the standard processes
of SAP S/4HANA Cloud are reviewed, to determine how they t with your business requirements. The functionality of SAP
S/4HANA Cloud is demonstrated in the starter system, so that you can see how the solution can meet your requirements. In
addition, any requirements that are not covered by our standard processes are examined. This will help to determine the other
products that you will need in your environment. Then any special decisions that must be made regarding con guration are
identi ed. The results of the workshops should be documented appropriately. For more information, see the following links:

Scope Activation in a 3-System Landscape

In a 3-system landscape, once the workshops are complete and your solution scope is de ned, you need to review, evaluate, and
activate it. For details on the process, see New Scope Activation .

Once your scope has been activated, you can request your other systems, including other products that can be integrated with
SAP S/4HANA Cloud, in SAP for Me. For more information, see Systems and Tenants in a 3-System Landscape.

Your Systems
SAP provides you with a system environment based on your business requirements. After you have signed your subscription
contract for SAP S/4HANA Cloud, you can use SAP for Me to review the systems to which you’re entitled according to the
contract, and make them available for your use (this is called provisioning). Your contract is represented by your SAP BTP
(Business Technology Platform) global account.

You should rst set up SAP Cloud Identity Services. Once you've done this, you can request an SAP Cloud ALM tenant and
then an SAP Central Business Con guration tenant . Once you have received the tenant for SAP Central Business
Con guration, you can trigger the provisioning of your systems and tenants for SAP S/4HANA Cloud:

After you trigger provisioning, you receive the system credentials and other information from SAP via e-mail. For more
information on the required steps, see Provisioning Sequence of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Tenants.

Tenants and Integrated Products

In software-as-a-service (SaaS), an application tenant is a unit of commercialization and subscription. An organization can be
entitled to a tenant, and subscribe to it or unsubscribe from it. Each subscriber receives a single URL to access their tenant. If
you have applications based on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP apps) that you would like to integrate with SAP
S/4HANA Cloud, you need to integrate their tenants with the tenants of SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

Unless otherwise speci ed in the documentation for your BTP app, we generally recommend a setup with two tenants; one for
production and one for both con guration and testing. For each BTP app, the tenant for production should be connected to the
production tenant of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, and the tenant for con guration and testing should be connected to the test tenant
of SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

For some BTP apps, we recommend an extended setup with three tenants. In this setup, con guration and testing are
separated into different tenants and integrated with the corresponding tenants of SAP S/4HANA Cloud. In this case, one tenant
should be connected to the customizing tenant of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, one tenant to the test tenant of SAP S/4HANA Cloud,
and another tenant to the production tenant of SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

Always refer to the documentation for your BTP app to check which setup applies.

 Note
We do not recommend connecting tenants of different categories; for example, you should not connect the tenant that you
use to test an integrated product to the production tenant of SAP S/4HANA Cloud.

Account Structure
As mentioned above, your SAP BTP global account represents your contract with SAP, and subaccounts let you structure this
account according to your organization’s members, authorizations, and entitlements.

This is custom documentation. For more information, please visit the SAP Help Portal 4
7/9/2024
Unless otherwise speci ed in your product-speci c and service-speci c documentation, we recommend that you set up two
subaccounts for each relevant SAP S/4HANA Cloud landscape (for example, two subaccounts for your test landscape and two
subaccounts for your production landscape). One subaccount should be used to subscribe to all the integrated BTP apps and
the other to subscribe to the central services for shared usage, such as SAP Master Data Integration (MDI) or SAP Master
Data Orchestration (MDO). Due to technical dependencies, some dependent services need to be in the same subaccount as the
consuming BTP apps.

 Note
Always refer to the product-speci c and service-speci c documentation to check whether the general recommendation
mentioned here applies.

The following diagram shows a general example of what this recommended setup can look like:

For examples of how to set up speci c BTP apps, as well as their dependent services and respective integration services, see
the landscape modeling recommendations in SAP Activate Roadmap Viewer .

Software Hosting
SAP hosts your software and stores your data in its own data centers, located all around the world. SAP Trust Center
provides location and availability information on these data centers. You can search for data centers by region or product.

You can also choose to have your software hosted in a data center of a hyperscaler, which is a cloud service provider that offers
infrastructure to host software. SAP has relationships with many hyperscaler data center providers that can quickly deploy your
SAP software in the cloud. For more information, see SAP and Hyperscalers .
