Course orientation
This course introduces project management from the standpoint of a manager who must organize, plan, implement,
and control tasks to achieve an organization's schedule, budget, and performance objectives.
This course focuses on planning, organizing and implementing projects: project initiation, planning, organizing,
scheduling, monitoring and control, conflict management, cost effectiveness, quality, software tools for project
management, team processes and leadership.
Student will be required to make use of NPTEL sessions and Ted/TEdX talks as resource.

Course Objectives
After completing this course, you should be able to:
CO1 Apply project management methodologies, processes, and tools to execute projects in organizations.
CO2 Understand the role of risk planning and mitigation.
CO3 Develop effective approaches for managing high-performance project teams, communication strategies,
and best practice closeout strategy that maximizes the value of the project experience.
CO4 Understand the impacts of schedule, cost, and scope elements in projects and analyse different
techniques for managing risks.
CO5 Understand and appreciate project scope statements, Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), Project
Network Diagrams, and Responsibility Assignment Matrix (RAM).
CO6 Apply various tools and techniques for successful management of projects.

Fundamentals of project, necessity and imperatives for projects, strategic management and projects, Life cycle

Project Planning- activities and risk planning, budgeting-estimating costs and risks
Scheduling- network techniques (CPM/PERT), Risk analysis
Project execution- Monitoring and information systems, Project control, Project auditing, Project termination, Theory
of Constraints (TOC) perspective on projects
Organisational issues – skills required for project leader, communication, motivation and team working, behavioural
issues
Project management in practice - Case studies –Delhi metro, Delhi Airport, Covid-Vaccine etc.

Mini Project
You are required to do mini project related to the themes in the course with the philosophy of applying these ideas
on a real-life situation you have seen/ visualized/or read. Please note this is an action-based exercise where you put
in the knowledge gained in this course coupled with knowledge /experience gained elsewhere into practice with a life
cycle perspective on projects. The outcome is a case study of a real-life project in India.
The length of the report should NOT exceed EIGHT (8) A4-pages (including appendices, exhibits, tables etc.).
1. Select a real-life project that interests you.
2. Analyze the project in detail from different perspectives and prepare a case study in PM (it could be, say
sports complex on IITD campus, a feasibility of a start-up or event management for IPL!)
3. Give your specific analysis and recommendations.
4. Summarize and conclude.
5. Write references you have used. Use the standard style for referencing.
6. You are also sent ppt (not more than 10 slides) of the case study.

Use standard template for report preparation.
