Course Description:
A study of the life, works and writings of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, the national hero and martyr, as they relate to
the socio-political situation of the Philippines during his time and its implication to our present time. It traces the
hero’s life, ideals, concept of education, good government, and nationalism as embodied in his writings,
particularly the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. This course also aims to stimulate and inculcate critical
thinking and appreciation of the martyr’s other literary works.

As evidence of attaining comprehension and appreciation of the course, the students must be able to:
1. Appreciate the depth and breadth of the life and works of the country’s National Hero,
expressing orally and in written form.
2. Get acquainted with his different literary and civic works.
3. Discuss the different values for literary pieces.
4. Relate to real life experiences the incidents of and during his lifetime albeit figuratively.
5. Correlate the text to the situation today.
6. Express creatively the pieces/message of the literary pieces through PPT
7. Write a reflection paper on a chosen piece the hero has written.
A. ORAL PRESENTATION
1. Think – pair – share: A pair of students will choose a literary piece and discuss its relevance and
analysis to the class in a power point presentation; pointing out its literary style. (5-7 MINUTES)
2. Extract synopsis and literary analysis from internet source or library source on the literary pieces
to be discussed.
B. WRITTEN REQUIREMENT
3. Write a position and reflection paper on the values presented in Rizal’s literary pieces as you
reflect on personal issues surrounding such.
