table/overall and select any FIVE (5) teams.

Extract and present the following data then use it to answer the questions that follow:

QUESTION A

Team Name; Matches Played (MP); Goals (G); Goal Difference (GD) and Points (4
marks)

MP G GD Pts
Matches Goal
Team Played Goals Difference Points
Gor Mahia FC 20 25 15 43
Nairobi City
FC 20 26 1 34
Bandari FC 20 20 4 34
Posta Rangers
FC 20 22 11 35
Tusker FC 20 23 9 31

QUESTION B

Under each team selected above, choose any two top scorers and gather the following about
them: Name; Nationality; Number of Goals and Position in the top scorer standing.
6 marks

Team Name Nationality Number of Position in

Goals the scorer
standing

Gor Mahia A. Odhiambo Kenyan 6 5

FC

P. Kaddu Ugandan 4 7

Nairobi City A. Etemesi Kenyan 9 2

FC

V. Otieno Kenyan 4 7

Bandari FC H. Abdallah Kenyan 5 6

Posta Brian Marita Kenyan 4 7

Rangers FC

Calvin Odongo Kenyan 4 7

Tusker FC D. Ojok Ugandan 6 8

R. Aloro Kenyan 2 9

QUESTION C

For each of the data points, describe the variables and categorize them under the respective
measurement scale indicating also whether it is Quantitative or Qualitative. (10 marks)

The data points are Team, Name, Nationality, Number of Goals and Position of scorer
standing. They are described as follows;
i. Team

a) Variable: Categorical

b) Measurement Scale: Nominal

c) Type: Qualitative

ii. Name

a) Variable: Categorical

b) Measurement Scale: Nominal

c) Type: Qualitative

iii. Nationality

a) Variable: Categorical

b) Measurement Scale: Nominal

c) Type: Qualitative

iv. Number of Goals

a) Variable: Numerical

b) Measurement Scale: Ratio

c) Type: Quantitative

v. Position in the Scorer Standing

a) Variable: Numerical

b) Measurement Scale: Ordinal

c) Type: Quantitative

Therefore, we can summarize as follows;

The Team, Name, and Nationality are qualitative variables measured on a nominal scale.

The Number of Goals is a quantitative variable measured on a ratio scale.

The Position in the Scorer Standing is a quantitative variable measured on an ordinal scale.

By Definition;

Nominal: Used to categorize data into mutually exclusive categories or groups

The ordinal scale is the 2nd level of measurement that reports the ranking and ordering of the
data without actually establishing the degree of variation between them.

Ratio: Allows for comparisons and computations such as ratios, percentages, and averages.

QUESTION D

Present the above dataset in table format. (5 marks)

Team Name Matches Goals Gd Points

Tusker FC 25 53 21 52

Bandari FC 25 29 -2 35

Posta 20 22 11 35

QUESTION E

Is the data extracted secondary data or primary data? Justify your answer. (5 marks)

The data collected is secondary data.

Primary data is information collected first-hand for a specific purpose. In this case, our group did
not gather the data ourself by observing the league, conducting interviews with players, or
directly entering it into a system.

On the other hand, according to (Boslaugh, 2017), secondary data is every dataset not obtained
originally by the author, or ‘the analysis of data gathered by someone else”. Here, the data on the
Flash score website has been compiled by the website itself, presumably from various sources
like individual clubs, leagues, or official statistics providers.

We can therefore strongly affirm that the data extracted is secondary data because:
 The group did not conduct any original research or observation to collect the data.
 The source of the data (flash score) is independent of our research question.
 The data was originally collected for a different purpose, that is, displaying information
on the website.
