Course Objectives:
To make the students understand the causes and effects of various natural and man-made
disasters like earthquakes, floods, landslides, tsunamis, oil spillage, gas leakage, etc. The
student will also be able to plan various mitigation measures and design infrastructure for
disaster management.

Course Outcomes (COs):


At the end of the course, the students will be able to:
CO1 Understand the causes and effects of various disasters.
CO2 Plan risk management/disaster mitigation techniques.
CO3 Case studies to understand the mitigation measures
CO4 Understanding the role of Remote Sensing in Disaster mitigation

earthquakes, Floods, Drought, Coastal Hazards, Landslides,
rockslides and Forest Fires, Tsunamis, Oil spillage, Gas leakage, etc.
2 DISASTER MITIGATION AND PREPAREDNESS 07
Mitigation measures for natural disasters-earth quakes, tsunamis,
cyclones, floods, landslides, etc., Mitigation measures for various
industrial hazards/disasters, Preparedness for natural disasters.
3 HAZARD AND RISK ASSESSMENT 05
Assessment of capacity, vulnerability, risk, vulnerability and risk
mapping, stages in disaster recovery, and associated problems.
4 EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS 05
Emergency medical and essential public health services, response
and recovery operations, reconstruction, and rehabilitation.
5 CAPACITY BUILDING 08
Disaster management approach to inculcate new skills and sharpen
existing skills of government officials, voluntary activists, development
of professional and elected representative for effective disaster
management, an overview of disaster management in India.
