Neural Crest Cells and Their Derivatives
Neural Crest Cells and Their Derivatives
Embryogenesis:-
Embryogenesis unfolds in three distinct phases, each marked by pivotal events and
milestones. The pre-implantation period, spanning the first seven days post-fertilization, lays
the groundwork for subsequent development. Following this, the embryonic period,
encompassing the next seven weeks, witnesses the emergence of rudimentary structures
and the initiation of organogenesis. Finally, the fetal period, extending from three to nine
months, is characterized by the maturation and refinement of organs and tissues in
preparation for birth.
At the heart of embryonic development lies the enigmatic neural crest cells, emerging from
the dorsal aspect of the neural tube at the junction with the surface ectoderm. These
migratory pioneers possess a remarkable capacity for differentiation, giving rise to a diverse
array of cell types, including neurons, glial cells, and melanocytes. Their journey is governed
by an intricate interplay of signaling pathways and transcription factors, ensuring precise
spatial and temporal coordination.
