HRM 301: EMPLOLYEE TTRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT


INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES:
1. Answer ALL Questions
2. Submit your answers in word format unless otherwise instructed. Type your answers in a
word document. Do not PDF your document.
3. Submit your answers via the D-learning platform.
4. For images (photographs, graphs and calculations etc), use legible writing. Take an image
(Photo) of all the answer sheets and submit via the E-learning Remember to number the
answer sheet pages.
NOTE: No submissions will be accepted in any other mode e.g. emails,
WhatsApp etc.
5. The examinations start at 9.00am and all the answer scripts MUST be posted on the portal
by 9.00am the following day (within 12 hours).
6. Submit your answer sheets as one document. Click the “SUBMIT” button to ensure that
your answer sheet is uploaded in the portal.
7. Allow yourself enough time to confirm that your submission has gone through. You will
receive an automated email receipt on successful submission.
NOTE: Submission deadlines must be observed.
8. On the front page of each answer script you are required to observe the following
instructions:
 Write your student number in full
 Write the unit code and title
 Write the date of examination
 Write “SUPPLEMENTARY” or “DEFFERED EXAM” as the case may be, (if you are
taking a supplementary or deferred examination).
 Write the name of the lecturer
QUESTION ONE

Company XYZ, a medium-sized technology firm, has recently recognized the need to invest in
employee training and development to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving industry. The
company's management has decided to implement a comprehensive training program aimed at
enhancing the skills and knowledge of its workforce.

XYZ Company has experienced rapid growth over the past few years, leading to an influx of
new employees with varying levels of expertise. Additionally, advancements in technology and
changes in market demands have highlighted the necessity for continuous learning and
development among the existing workforce. As a result, the company is committed to designing
and implementing effective training initiatives to ensure its employees remain skilled and
adaptable. However, top management are not interested in training initiatives.

Required:

a) As the officer in charge of training and development at company XYZ, prepare a write up
that you will present to the top level management to convince them to facilitate training
and development of XYZ Company employees. Ensure your points are concise and well-
structured.

b) Using relevant theories, concepts, and practical strategies to support your answer,
demonstrate how would you ensure the long-term sustainability of the training and
development program, as the HR manager of Company XYZ. Provide at least three
strategies to foster continuous learning and growth among employees.

"Training programs are essential components of organizational development, aimed at enhancing
the skills, knowledge, and abilities of employees. However, the effectiveness of these programs
can vary widely”.

i) Consider various evaluation methods, such as Kirkpatrick's Four Levels of


Evaluation, Return on Investment (ROI) analysis, and qualitative feedback
mechanisms to discuss how organizations can utilize these evaluation approaches to
assess the impact of training programs on employee performance, organizational
goals, and overall productivity.

ii) Analyze the challenges associated with evaluating training programs and propose
strategies to overcome these challenges, ensuring that organizations can continuously
improve their training initiatives for optimal results.
