SECTION 15860

HVAC - FANS

PART - 1 GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION

A. The Work shall consist of furnishing and installation of ventilation and exhaust system
as shown on the drawings and specified in this section.

1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's technical data for air distribution equipment,
including capacity ratings, fan performance curves with operating point clearly
indicated, gages and finishes of materials, dimensions, weights, furnished accessories,
and installation and instructions.
B. Shop Drawings: Submit manufacturer's assembly type shop drawings indicating
dimensions, required clearances, installation details and field connection details.
C. Wiring Diagrams: Submit the manufacturer's electrical requirements for power supply
wiring to the units.
D. Operation and Maintenance Data: Submit maintenance and lubrication instructions,
motor and drive replacement instructions, and spare parts list for each unit.

E. Spare Parts List: Submit the manufacturer's spare parts list for ventilation equipment for
a period of 2 years for the Engineer's review and approval.

1.04 TRANSPORTATION, HANDLING AND STORAGE


A. Deliver materials to the site in manufacturer's original factory wrappings and
containers, clearly labeled for identification of manufacturer, brand name and contents.
Store materials off ground in original undamaged packages and containers, inside well-
ventilated area protected from weather, moisture, soiling, extreme temperatures, and
humidity. Follow manufacturer's recommendations regarding the transportation,
handling and storage of materials.

1.05 WARRANTY
A. Submit a written guarantee signed by manufacturer and the installer agreeing to replace
partitions which fail in material or workmanship within a period of 2 years from the
date of substantial handing over.

1.06 QUALITY ASSURANCE


A. Motors and electrical accessories shall comply with the applicable NEMA Standards.
B. Electrical components and installation shall comply with NFPA 70 - National Electrical
Code.

PART - 2 PRODUCTS

2.01 GENERAL
A. The design, manufacture and installation of the ventilating fans shall meet the
requirements of AMCA 300 and ASHRAE 51/210 and shall be listed and labeled by
UL. Fans shall be licensed to bear AMCA Seal for sound and air performance. Fans
shall be provided with speed controller (where required) to perform the duty as
mentioned on schedules. The fans shall be selected such that the sound levels within the
area will not exceed the specified levels. Each fan shall be equipped with disconnect
switch, back draft damper (except for kitchen exhaust fans) and bird screen. Fans shall
be of sizes, types and capacities as shown on the drawings.
B. Ventilation and exhaust fans, equipment, accessories and fittings shall be manufactured
of approved material, components and parts suitable and appropriate to the project site
location climate conditions (desert dry climate) as per the manufacturer
recommendations and international standards and codes regulations.

2.02 AXIAL FANS

A Provide factory-fabricated and tested axial wall mounted or inline fans. Fan units
consisting of fan blades, hub, housing, orifice ring, motor and drive.

B Fan shall have heavy gauge galvanized steel construction housing with flanged edge
and integral orifice ring. The fan blades shall be of airfoil welded galvanized steel
construction with spun steel spider bolted to cast-iron hub. All fan parts shall be

protected against corrosion. Fan and motor bearings shall be sealed and of self
lubricating type.
C Fan shall be direct driven with totally enclosed single speed motor having flange-type
bearings, and standard NEMA frame size. See the Section entitled "Electric Motors
and Controllers" for motor specifications.

D Fan shall be capable of operating satisfactory with 45oC outside air temperature and
100% relative humidity. Fans used for smoke evacuation shall be fire rated at 300 oC
for 2hours.

F Each fan shall have heavy gauge gravity shutter blades in the discharge side (if no
external louvers installed) and galvanized steel wire guard in the motor side. The
shutter operation shall be tested before delivery to site insuring no rattle sound shall be
recognized.

2.03 CABINET TYPE FANS

A Each cabinet type fan shall be complete with housing, fan, adjustable V-belt drive,
motor, etc. Applicable portions of the specifications for factory-built air handling units
apply as if herein repeated in full except that a cabinet type fan shall be without a drain
pan.

2.04 CENTRIFUGAL TYPE FANS

A Centrifugal type fans shall be single width, single inlet and have arrangements as
indicated on Drawings. Fans shall be factory-assembled and tested consisting of
housing, wheel, fan shaft, bearings, and side support structure.
B Housings shall be galvanized steel with lock seam construction for sizes 600 mm to
1000 mm, spot welded construction for sizes 1100 mm to 1500 mm and continuous
weld construction horizontal splits, bolted together for sizes 1650 mm and larger,
beaded discharge reinforcement. Housings shall be of the adjustable type with
continuous spun inlet cones with duct connections collars. Any unit exposed to
weather shall be complete with weatherproof enclosure for motor and drive.
C Wheels blades shall be backward inclined plate-type for sizes 560 mm and smaller,
non-power overloading backward inclined airofoil blades for sizes 600 mm and larger
blades made of die cut and die formed shall be welded to steel wheel rim and hub plate,
wheels to be keyed to shafts. Shafts shall be constructed of AISI C 1040 or 1045 solid
hot- rolled steel, turned and polished.
Bearings shall be heavy-duty, grease-lubricated, precision anti-friction ball or roller,
self-aligning, pillow block type bearings selected for minimum average life (AFBMA L
50) of 100,000 hours. Fan bearings and drive are to be enclosed and isolated from air
stream.
D Drive shall be V-belt drive, selected for 1.4 service factor with adjustable pitch sheaves,
selected for midpoint at design conditions.

Fan shall be capable to operate satisfactorily with 45`C outside air temperature. Fans
used for smoke shall be rated to work at 300oC for 2 hours and their motors shall be
IP55 and Class E insulation.

2.05 CENTRIFUGAL ROOF EXHAUSTER

A The roof exhaust/supply fan shall be supplied with direct / belt driven up blast discharge
complete with casing, fan wheel, motor, mounting base frame, vibration isolators, bird
screen, shutter and curb.

B The fan shall be housed in a base fitted with a weathering skirt and covered by a cowl
with curved contour.

C The fan construction shall be weatherproof, heavy gauge steel, all-welded and hot-dip
galvanized. All fan parts shall be protected against corrosion.
The fan wheel shall be forward inclined centrifugal type, all welded construction shall
have blades of not less than 2.75 mm galvanized steel. The entire motor drive assembly
and fan wheel as a unit shall be removed through the support structure without
dismantling the fan housing. For hot air extraction (kitchen exhaust) the fan motor, the
drive and bearings shall be isolated from the air handled by the fan.
D The fan motors are of totally enclosed squirrel-cage induction design, with Class F
insulation, suitable for ambient temperatures up to 50°C. Provide factory wired non-
fusible type disconnect switch at motor in fan housing, thermal overload protection in
fan motor and conduit chase within unit for electrical connection.
E The motors can be positioned for lubricating from above the roof. Hinged curbs
giving access to the lubricators.
The units must be fitted with automatic shutters with removable bird screen installed
within the curb, opened by the fan draught and closed when the fan stops. The shutter
operation shall be tested before delivery to site insuring no rattle sound shall be
recognized.

F The curbs shall be insulated metal suitable to fit base of roof and to suit roof
construction and color.

2.06 IN-LINE CENTRIFUGAL FANS (DUCT MOUNTED TYPE)

A. Duct mounted supply, exhaust or return fans shall be of the centrifugal belt driven in-
line type. The fan housing shall be of the square design constructed of heavy galvanized
steel and shall include square duct mounting collars. Fan construction shall include two
removable access panels located perpendicular to the motor mounting panel. The access
panels must of sufficient size to permit easy access to all interior components.
B. The fan wheel shall be centrifugal backward inclined, constructed of aluminum and
shall include a wheel cone carefully matched to the inlet cone for precise running
tolerances. Wheels shall be statically and dynamically balanced. Motors shall be heavy
duty ball bearing type, carefully matched to the fan load and furnished at the specified
voltage, phase and enclosure. Motors and drives shall be mounted out of the airstream.

Motors shall be readily accessible for maintenance.
C. Precision ground and polished fan shafts shall be mounted in permanently sealed,
lubricated pillow block ball bearings. Bearings shall be selected for a minimum (L50)
life in excess of 200,000 hours at maximum cataloged operating speed. Drives shall be
sized for a minimum of 150% of driven horsepower. Pulleys shall be of the fully
machined cast iron type, keyed and securely attached to the wheel and motor shafts.
D. Motor pulleys shall be adjustable for final system balancing. A NEMA 1 disconnect
switch shall be provided as standard, except with explosion resistant motors, where
disconnects are optional. Factory wiring shall be provided from motor to the handy box.
E. All fans shall bear the AMCA Certified Ratings Seal for both sound and air
performance. Each fan shall bear a permanently affixed manufacturer's nameplate
containing the model number and individual serial number for future identification.
Fans shall be of type and capacity as shown on the drawings.

2.07 CEILING MOUNTED EXHAUST FAN

A. The cabinet fan shall be ceiling mounted complete with a direct drive/close coupled
centrifugal fan. Fan motor shall be selected at low RPM. The motor shall be com
patible with ordinary electronic speed controller. The protection class shall be IP44.
The insulation class shall be class F with building thermal over load. The direct drive
motor shall have aluminum housing.
B. The centrifugal wheel shall be made from galvanized steel sheet and shall be compete
as one assembly together with impeller motor.
C. Impeller is forward curved made from galvanized steel mounted on external rotor
motor and dynamically and statically balanced.
D. The complete fan shall be assembled into rectangular housing made from galvanized
sheets having a G90 coating and shall be insulated by a rigid fiber glass 48 kg/m³
density.
E. Ceiling mounted exhaust fan shall has a decorative grill made from aluminum and shall
be finished with power coating.
F. The ceiling mounted exhaust fan shall be silent (lower noise level) and easy access for
maintenance and repair.

PART - 3 EXECUTION

3.01 INSTALLATION
A. General Install fans where indicated, in accordance with manufacturer's installation
instructions and recognized industry practices, to ensure that fans comply with the
requirements specified and serve the intended purposes.
B. Access: Provide access and service space around and over fans as indicated, but in no
case less than that recommended by manufacturer.
C. Support: Unless otherwise indicated, provide 100 mm high concrete pad under floor-

mounted centrifugal fans.
D. Isolation: Set centrifugal fans on vibration isolators, fasten in accordance with
manufacturer's installation instructions.
E. Electrical Wiring: Install electrical devices furnished by manufacturer but not specified
to be factory-mounted. Verify that electrical wiring installation conform to the
manufacturer's submittal and installation requirements of the applicable Sections of
Division 16. Ensure that rotation is in the direction indicated and intended for proper
performance.
F. Ductwork Connections: Refer to Section 15895 - HVAC DUCTWORK. Provide
flexible connections on inlet and outlet duct connections.

3.02 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL


A. Upon completion of installation of fans and after motors has been energized with
normal power source, test the equipment to demonstrate compliance with the specified
requirements.
B. Where possible, field correct malfunctioning equipment, and then retest to demonstrate
compliance.
C. Replace equipment which cannot be satisfactorily corrected at no extra cost to the
Owner.

3.03 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING


A. Start-up, test and adjust fans in the presence of the manufacturer's authorized
representative and the Engineer.
