Professional Learning for Practitioners across ALL Settings

Overview
This CPD will provide you with an outline of:
• Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) as a national priority in education;
• DYW as an integral part of Scotland’s Curriculum;
• The Career Education Standard 3 – 18;
• The importance of embedding career education and skills within learning &
teaching and how this might be achieved;
• The support and resources available to effectively embed career education within
your practice.

Session 1 - Introduction to DYW and the Systematic Development of skills


Tuesday, 6th February 4 pm – 5:30 pm

This session will provide you with a basic understanding of the importance of DYW and its
link to Scotland’s Curriculum as well as the current Education Reform Agenda. It introduces
the entitlements of learners and expectations on teachers stated in the Career Education
Standard 3-18 and exemplifies the breadths and depths of its manifestation within education.

This session will highlight the importance of the systematic development of skills across the
learner journey and introduce relevant tools and frameworks that support this process.
As part of this CPD you will have the opportunity for professional dialogue and group
discussions.

Session 2 - Embedding DYW within the Curriculum


Tuesday, 20th February 4 pm – 5 pm

This session will allow you to hear about and reflect upon DYW examples from across all
stages of the learner journey. It will also draw on your own experience and professional
reflection to elicit the importance and potential impact of DYW within your practice. It will
highlight some key principles of effective practice as well as provide you with resources and
support materials in order to take DYW forward in your own context.

Session 3 – (optional) follow up conversation:


Tuesday 14th May, 4 pm – 5 pm
This optional session will allow you to reconvene with colleagues who have had the chance
to reflect on this topic and/or implement aspects of this in their practice. This conversational
session will provide you with the opportunity to share your experiences and reflections as
well as ask questions in order to progress this agenda further.
