Part 1
Topic: Television programmes
Well, I enjoy watching TV shows at home with all the members in my family. We usually gather together every Saturday
to binge-watch some of our favourite TV series. It’s really great to talk about what we like or don’t like about every show
and laugh our heads off when we see something hilarious.
3. Are there any programmes/shows you don’t like watching? [Why?/Why not?]
Actually, there’s a bunch of TV programmes that I’m not keen on, one of which is documentaries. I mean, I find it tedious
and tiresome watching documentaries, though I know they’re very informative and I have no problem with people enjoying
those shows.
4. Do you think you will watch more TV or fewer TV programmes/shows in the future? [Why?/ Why not ?]
I think I’ll watch fewer TV shows in the future mainly because my work’s been getting in the way and I can hardly find any
free time. Besides, many TV programmes nowadays are so commercially-driven that they rarely have any educational
value.
Từ vựng:
• to binge-watch: xem liên tục nhiều bộ phim, luyện phim
• laugh one’s head off: cười nắc nẻ
• hilarious: hài hước
• witty jokes: những trò đùa dí dỏm
• tedious: chán
• tiresome: gây chán, khó chịu

Topic 1: Choosing work
2. Who is best at advising young people about choosing a job: teachers or parents?
I think it depends. Teachers and parents both play an important role in consulting future jobs for young people. While
teachers know best about their student’s academic performance and potential, parents understand their kid’s personalities
and ambitions. So it’s really hard to tell who gives better advice for young people when it comes to choosing their future
jobs.
Từ vựng:

• intense labor: hoạt động sử dụng nhiều sức lực
• physically demanding: đòi hỏi nhiều sức lực
• white-collar worker: người làm việc sử dụng trí óc, không sử nhiều hoạt động chân tay

Topic 2: Work-Life balence
1. Do you agree that many people nowadays are under pressure to work longer hours and take less holiday?
Well, I do believe so. A lot of people nowadays are under constant pressure at their workplace and spend less time on
holidays for many reasons. I think it has something to do with the expectation from their boss and the heavy workload
that comes with it. Many people have to work extra hours just to meet the demand of their superiors because they think
that by doing so, they can prove their potential and have more chances to get promoted.
3. Could you recommend some effective strategies for governments and employers to ensure people have a good
work-life balance?
In my opinion, governments can impose restrictions on the number of working hours that people work per day or per
week and fine businesses that force their staff to work overtime. Although I agree that sometimes employees have to
work longer hours when there are important projects coming, employers shouldn’t encourage their staff to turn it into a
habit.

• let alone: huống hồ là
• to fail to do something: không thể làm việc gì

Speaking
Part 1
Topic: Age
1. Are you happy to be the age you are now? [Why/Why not?]
Yes, I’m in my late twenties and I’m glad that I’ve reached this wonderful chapter of life when most of my characteristics
and directions are mostly shaped. You know, a few years back, I struggled to find out who I really was and what I wanted
to do with my life. Now, I’m just feeling grateful for what I have and proud of the person I’ve become.
2. When you were a child, did you think a lot about your future? [Why/Why not?]
Well, no, when I was a kid, I spent most of my time thinking about trivial things like what games to play, what to eat and
where to hang out with my friends after school. Guess I was so carefree and childish back then that the idea of my future
had never crossed my mind.
3. Do you think you have changed as you have got older? [Why/Why not?]
Yes, obviously. I’ve become more mature and managed to consider things carefully before making a decision. You know,
when I was a few years younger, I was kinda self-righteous, capricious and not really receptive to others ‘ ideas.
Từ vựng:
• In late twenties: đang trong độ tuổi 26-29

Topic 1: Technology and education
2. Do you think that schools should use more technology to help children learn?
Yes, I think so. Modern technological devices such as projectors and computers would be great assistants for teachers
to make their lessons more engaging. Besides, students can make use of the Internet to search for information about
their lessons and attend online courses. However, teachers should ensure that their students won’t rely too much on
technology to learn because they still need to interact with their teachers and classmates.
3. Do you agree or disagree that computers will replace teachers one day?
I have to disagree with that. Though computers can provide lessons on some learning platforms, they aren’t flexible
enough to replace human teachers. Online teaching programs are designed with fixed patterns and information, so they
can’t adapt to the differences in students’ personalities. However, teachers, with their feelings and flexibility, can adjust
their teaching styles based on students’ needs.
Từ vựng:
• excessively (adv): quá mức
• addictive (a): có tính gây nghiện
• guidance (n): sự hướng dẫn
• engaging (a): có tính lôi cuốn
• rely on something (v): phụ thuộc vào

Topic 2: Technology and society
1. How much has technology improved how we communicate with each other?
Well, technology has significantly changed the way we communicate with each other. Back then, letters and snail mails
were the most popular forms of communication, but now people can instantly text each other via online messaging
platforms such as Facebook Messenger and Snapchat. Besides, distance is no longer a matter since we can communicate
with each other face to face via free-call service apps.
2. Do you agree that there are still many more major technological innovations to be made?
Yes, I think so. Technological devices can get outdated really quickly, I mean, new functions and applications are created
every day to enhance user experience. Besides, it’s just human nature to discover and invent new things to improve
our current living conditions. So, I think people won’t stop coming up with new ideas and creating more technological
innovations.
3. Could you suggest some reasons why some people are deciding to reduce their use of technology?
Well, I believe people have different reasons to avoid using technology. Old people may be not familiar with modern
features in technological devices and find them difficult to use. Others may reduce their use of technology just because
they’re afraid that the radiation effects can do harm to their bodies.
Từ vựng:

Speaking
Part 1
Topic: Money
1. When you go shopping, do you prefer to pay for things in cash or by card? [Why?]
Well, it depends on what I wanna buy and where I shop. I mean, when I hit grocery stores for some daily necessities like
food or drinks, I prefer using cash as those shops don’t have POS machines. However, for online shopping, I definitely
have to use my credit card since some stores require advance payment.
3. Would you ever take a job which had low pay? [Why/Why not?]
Well, at some point, I wouldn’t mind having a low-paid job as long as it gives me a sense of satisfaction and room for
personal development. But that’s not always the case as at some stages in life, I have to deal with financial issues, which
leaves me no choice but to get a job with a handsome salary.
4. Would winning a lot of money make a big difference to your life? [Why/Why not?]
Yes, I believe winning a lot of money would definitely shake up my life because it would allow me to afford many more
tangible assets such as a bigger house for my family and set foot in places I’ve never been to. So yes, it would make a
huge change.

Well, taking part in meetings with coworkers requires a lot of communication skills. I think the most important thing
is to know how to listen to others’ points of view, respect their ideas and be receptive to constructive feedback and
comments. Besides, I think we should learn how to patiently explain our viewpoints in the most understandable way for
our colleagues, without losing our cool or ending up getting everyone confused.
2. What are the possible effects of poor written communication skills at work?
I think poor written communication skills at work can lead to confusion and a waste of time. I mean, a vague message
can make the receiver confused and they will take more time to decipher what the message means. Then the receiver
may need to find the person who wrote it and ask them to explain it, which is now wasting the time of the two people.
Besides, sometimes the receiver misunderstands the message and fails to carry out the tasks as required, which can
result in more serious things like distrust and lack of team cohesion.
3. What do you think will be the future impact of technology on communication in the workplace?
In the future, I think technology will have a significant influence on the way people communicate with each other in the
workplace. The upcoming arrival of state-of-the-art and functional smartphones, social networking sites and chat apps
will bring communication to a new level, by which I mean communication among the employees or management to
subordinates will become faster, more instantaneous and unified.
Từ vựng:
• be receptive to (a): dễ dàng tiếp thu
• constructive (a): mang tính xây dựng
• understandable (a): một cách dễ hiểu
• lose one’s cool: mất bình tĩnh
• vague (a): mơ hồ, không rõ ràng
• decipher (v): giải nghĩa
• to fail to do something (v): không thể làm việc gì
• distrust (n): sự mất niềm tin
• team cohesion: tính gắn kết trong nhóm
• state-of-the-art (a): hiện đại, tiên tiến
• functional (a): đặc dụng
• subordinate (n): cấp dưới
• instantaneous (a): ngay lập tức
• unified (a): mang tính thống nhất

Part 1
Topic: Animals
1. Are there many animals or birds where you live? [Why/Why not?]
Well, I’m currently living in the city, so most of the animals I see are pets and some wild birds whose names I have no clue
about in the park. Actually, my neighbors have many cats and dogs, which are common domesticated animals, but my
house doesn’t have one because of my mom’s allergy to animal hair.
2. How often do you watch programmes or read articles about wild animals? [Why?]
Honestly, I rarely watch shows or read any articles about wildlife because I find wild animals dangerous and somehow
frightening. I mean, I had a terrible experience when I almost got bitten by a snake when I was a little kid and it’s haunted
me since then.
4. Would you like to have a job working with animals? [Why/Why not ?]
It’s a big No for me. Though the idea of working with animals sounds interesting to animal lovers like most of my friends,
I gotta say it’s not suitable for someone with zoophobia like me. Besides, I think this job requires a lot of skills and
patience, which I don’t think I have.

Topic 1: The Internet
1. Why do some people find the internet addictive?
Well, I think there are many reasons for that. Many people are addicted tothe Internet simply because there are too
many interesting things going on there, like playing online games, reading news, shopping and many more entertainment
options. Besides, I think some people just get hooked on the Internet as they wanna escape into a virtual world where
they don’t have to deal with daily pressures that are wearing them out. That’s why they’re always online.
3. Do you think that the way people use the internet may change in the future?
With the rapid development of technology, I think people will change their way of using the Internet in the future. Maybe
we’ll mainly use voice commands to carry out things online and have a type of system that helps us filter things that we
love to hear and read about. Also, I think there will be some drawbacks, I mean, some people may be over-reliant on the
Internet for literally everything in their lives and gradually have difficulties figuring out real-life problems.
Từ vựng:
• be addicted to something: nghiện cái gì
• get hooked on something: bị hấp dẫn bởi điều gì
• to escape into something (v): trốn thoát vào cái gì
• virtual world: thế giới ảo
• to wear somebody out (v): làm ai đó mệt mỏi
• digital era: kỷ nguyên kĩ thuật số
• to venture a guess (v): đoán
• capacity (n): sức chứa

Topic 2: Social media websites
1. What are the ways that social media can be used for positive purposes?
Social media can be used for numerous positive purposes, one of which is to spread news at an incredibly fast speed. This
helps to raise public awareness of social issues and also call for people’s actions on some serious matters. Moreover,
social media can be used as a type of advertising since businesses can promote their products on social networking
sites, which helps to attract more customers.
2. Why do some individuals post highly negative comments about other people on social media?
Well, that’s an interesting question. I think people do that for many reasons, and the first reason I can think of is that
people can say anything without being held responsible. I mean, on the Internet, the place of freedom of speech, nobody
knows who you really are and people can be anonymous or pretend to be someone else. Plus, communication on social
media is not exactly strictly censored and regulated like the way it is on TV or print media, which makes it much easier
for people to post negative or even toxic comments.
3. Do you think that companies’ main form of advertising will be via social media in the future?
Yes, I do think so. Companies will use social media as the main form of advertising because it helps them to approach
many new potential customers. You know, social networking sites like Facebook or Instagram are visited by billions of
users on a daily basis, which increases the chance for companies to get their products popularized.
