Essay 2: Students should be taught to read and write using a computer, as handwriting will

not be used in the future. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

As technology gains popularity, people have to reconsider the effects it has on education. There
exists a belief that handwritten materials will become obsolete and digital reading and writing
should be instructed to pupils instead. From my perspective, I partially agree with the
statement. I concur that electronic learning skills should be taught as early as possible but
handwritings will still play a major role in education.

On the one hand, digital learning provides substantial merits for students. To begin with,
lessons can be elevated to better capture the students’ attention. Teachers are free to
incorporate various relevant materials such as pictures and videos for reading sessions or an
intuitive step-by-step guide for students in writing class. These interactive components make
for a captivating learning experience, making sure education is not devoid of entertainment.
Furthermore, early exposure to the digital learning space is greatly beneficial to students. As
society progresses, a mastery in computer usage is required by anyone in any field. So by
equipping students with knowledge on how to navigate and gain knowledge in the digital
world, they are also learning how to operate the computer in their future jobs. The earlier a
student can make acquaintance with keyboard and desktop, the better.

On the other hand, handwritings possess values that cannot be replaced in the education
setting. To start, handwriting is a medium that allow for expression of a person’s ideas and
knowledge unrestrainedly. Students are often more articulate when they write freely on paper
than typing rigidly on a keyboard. Additionally, if students read and write on computers only,
the bond between them and the educator is weakened. A person’s handwriting conveys a sliver
of their true self and teachers can often base on a student’s handwriting to figure out how to
deal with their personality. These are core values that cannot be replicated digitally.

In conclusion, while students should be educated to be computer-savvy through reading and

writing on electronic devices, handwritings should not be given less emphasis in the classroom.
Through my meticulous analysis, it is my firm conviction that students should be able to
educated the ability to read and write both on paper and on the computer screen.
