SUBJECT: 2021 National Reading Month Celebration and Contest in English / Filipino

DATE: November 15, 2021

1. In consonance with the DepED Memorandum # 00466, s.2021 and Division


Memorandum No. 359 s.2021, re: 2021 National Reading Month Celebration
in Filipino and in English with the year’s theme: “Bawat Bata Bumabasa sa
Kabila ng Hamon ng Pandemya” (Every Child a Reader Despite the
Challenges of the Pandemic). This office announces the conduct of District
Virtual Contest in English and in Filipino via Google Platform and the link
will be posted on November 25,2021 at 8:00 o’clock in the morning.

2. This District activity recognizes the importance of reading as the vital


foundation for lifelong learning and enhance learners’ proficiency and
develop the Genuine Love for Reading (GLR) since reading is the foundation of
everything.

3. This activity aims to:


a. strengthen the reading skills and proficiency of the learners both in
English and in Filipino in the new normal learning delivery.
b. develop the learners’ confidence in the delivery of their reading skills
in the different categories via online platform.

4. Enclosure of this Memorandum is the contest categories and its mechanics.

5. Immediate dissemination on the contents of the Memorandum is earnestly


desired.

2021 National Reading Month Celebration and Contest in English / Filipino

CATEGORY I: ON THE SPOT READING CONTEST (FILIPINO)

1. The contest is open to all Grade I learners who will do the spot oral reading activity.
2. The reading material/reading passage will be provided to the learners during the contest proper
using the google link in Filipino.
3. The contestant will be allowed to enter the given link one after the other.
4. An assistor is allowed to setup the camera and audio of the device to be used by the participant
(use 1 laptop only)
5. A pre-assigned number will be given to all the contestants to identify the sequence/order of
presentation.
6. There will be 3 (three) winners for this category, and each shall receive a Certificate of Recognition.
7. The decision of Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.

Criteria for Judging:

Oral Fluency (50%)---------Pace/rate, voice quality, vocal expression

Pronunciation (30%)------Articulation and Intonation

Performance (20%)------Confidence

CATEGORY II: POEM RECITATION FOR GRADE TWO


This activity aims to develop the oral dramatic reading expression of the learners according to the literary
meaning in a highly creative and evocative expression.
Mechanics:
1. The contest is open to all Grade II learners.
2. The reading material will be provided to the learners a day before the contest proper using the
google links for both in English and Filipino.
3. The contestant will be allowed to enter the given link one after the other.
4. An assistor is allowed to setup the camera and audio of the device to be used by the participant.
5. A pre-assigned number will be given to all contestants to identify the sequence/order of
presentation.
6. There will be 3 (three) winners for this category, and each shall receive a Certificate of Recognition.
7. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.

Delivery (30%)----------Projection of characters and their emotions

Pronunciation (20%)------Articulation and Intonation

Effectiveness (15%)-------Multiple techniques are used to artfully create audience interest

Voice Quality (15%)------Proper Volume, tone variation and timing

Performance (20% )----- Confidence

CATEGORY III: CREATIVE STORY RETELLING /FOR GRADE III (FILIPINO & ENGLISH)
This activity aims to develop the art of story telling among learners, revitalize creative writing and promote
original stories from the locality.
Mechanics:
1. The contest is open to all Grade III learners.
2. The performance should run with a limited time of 3 minutes and a maximum time of 5 minutes.
3. Props are not allowed during the presentation, however; participants are required to wear their
school uniform or white t-shirt during the presentation.
4. There will be 3 (three) winners for this category, and each shall receive a Certificate of Recognition.
5. The decision of Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.

Criteria for Judging:


Delivery (30%)-----------Projection of characters and their emotions
Delivery (20%)----------Originality and creativity
Effectiveness (20%)---Multiple techniques are used to artfully create audience interest
Voice Quality (15%)---Proper Volume, tone variation and timing
Performance (15%)---Confidence

CATEGORY IV: INTERACTIVE STORY TELLING CONTEST FOR GRADES 4, 5, & 6 (FILIPINO AND ENGLISH)
This activity aims to provide an opportunity for the Filipino family to develop the love of books and reading
and enhance their presentation and communication skills through tandem storytelling.
Mechanics:
1. The contest is open to all Grade IV, V and VI learners.
2. The entry must be a storytelling video with a minimum of 3 (seven) minutes and maximum of 5 (5)
minutes.

3. Only the storybooks coming from the Division LRMDS shall be used. A list of storybooks will be
posted for this activity.
4. The storybook shall be featured in the video and storytellers shall mention the title, author and
illustrator of the storybook at the beginning of the presentation.
5. The use of graphics, animations and video editing applications are allowed.
6. The video must not exceed five (5) minutes and must submitted to the TWG in MP4 format with
480p resolution on or before November 24, 2021.
7. There will be 3 (three) winners for this category, and each shall receive a Certificate of Recognition.
8. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.

Criteria for Judging:


Delivery (30%)----------Story is delivered in a logical order.
Pronunciation (15%)----Articulation and intonation
Fluency (15%)------------Pace, voice quality and vocal expression
Performance (15%)----Confidence, gesture and mimicry
Creativity (15%)-------Artistic execution of the piece
Coordination (10%) Connection between the storyteller and the interpreter

TEACHER’S CATEGORY:
READING PROGRAM/ PROJECT EXHIBIT & PRESENTATION
The purpose of this activity is to present the best reading program/ project of the school during pandemic
for benchmarking by other schools in the district.
Mechanics:
1.Each school shall display the best reading program/ project preferably in the school library or learning
resource center. This can be done by displaying photos and documentations in the booth using tarpaulin
3x6” for details of the program.
2.Only the existing and ongoing reading program shall be presented in this activity. A 2-minute video
presentation of the reading program shall be submitted to the committee on or before Nov. 24,2021 for
judging.
3.Only 1 (one) entry per school using the unified format.
4. There will be three (3) winners for this category, and each shall receive a Certificate of
Recognition.
5. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.
