The impact of climate change

Globally, 1998 was the hottest year, and the


1990s were the warmest decade of the last
millennium. Recent research suggests that
climate change will dramatically affect
tourism around the world.

Currently, the Mediterranean is the world’s


most popular tourist destination. More than
120 million people visit every year. One
possible response to climate change might
be increased numbers of tourists holidaying
in the UK to avoid unbearably hot summers in the Mediterranean and continental Europe.
