MTH-201 Assignment NO .

Bc240220644

Name;sonia

Question no 1

Find the Partial Derivative of z with respect to x and y.

Z=y+sin( x 2 y)

Solution:

To find the partial derivative of ( z ) with respect to ( x) and ( y) ,we will differentiate each term

Partially derivating eq (1 with respect to ‘’ x “

∂Z ∂
= (y+sin ¿
∂x ∂x

Applying chain rule to sin (x2 y)

∂y
=0+cos ( x 2 y ) . ( 2 xy )=2 xycos( x 2 y)
∂x

Partially derivating eq (1 with respect to’ y’©Type equation here .

∂z ∂ ∂y
= (y+sin (xy))=1+(cosx2y). (x2y)= 1+cos(x2y).(x2)
∂ y ∂x ∂x

So, partial derivatives are ;

∂z
=2xycos(x2y)
∂x

∂z
=1+x2cos(x2y)
∂x

Question no 2
Find the distance and midpoint of A(4,5,6) and B(7,10,9)
To find the distance between points A(4,5,6) and B(7,10,9) we will use distance formula in three
dimensional space

Distance formula :

D=√ (x 2−x 1)2+( y 2− y 1)2+(z 2−z¿1)¿2

Distance between A and B

|AB|=√ (7−4)2+(10−5)2+¿ ¿)2

=√ ¿ ¿

√ 9+25+ 9
√ 43=≈ 6.55
Midpoint of A and B:

x 1+ x 2 , y 1+ y z 1+ z
Midpoint = , 2
2 2 2

4+ 7 5+10 6+9
=( , , )
2 2 2

12 15 15
, , )
2 2 2

(5.5,7.5,7.5)

So the distance between A and is approximately 6.65 units , and the midpoint is (5.5 ,7.5,7.5)
