The line graph shows estimated sales of gold in Dubai for 12 months in 2002 in millions of
Dirhams.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where
relevant.
You should write at least 150 words.

Model Answer:
The line graph shows monthly gold sales amount in Dubai throughout the year 2012. The sales amount
is given in million Dirhams for every month in 2012. A glance at the diagram reveals that in March
the sale amount was highest and average monthly sale of gold was between 100 and 200 million
Dirhams.
According to the line graph, total sales of gold was 200 million Dirhams in January 2002 in Dubai and
this amount rapidly increased in the next two months. In March, the sales amounted 350 million
Dirhams, the highest in the year but afterwards, the sales amount steadily declined till July when
the gold sale was recorded at just over 110 million Dirhams. August’s gold sale went abruptly
higher, over 200 million but it then dropped suddenly to 110 million again. Sales of gold climbed in
the next month, October but remained almost stable for the rest of the year at around 170-180 million
Dirhams. At the end of the year, Dubai gold sale was recorded at approximately 185 million
Dirhams, almost same as it was at the beginning of the year.

National Recycling Rates, US, 1960 to 2011

The line chart outlines how much waste was recycled in the US between 1960 and 2011. The garbage
recycling is presented both in quantity, in million tons, and percentage. Generally speaking, waste
recycling in the US after 1985 increased remarkably despite a big proportion of litter remained
unrecycled.
As the data suggests, 5.6 million tons rubbish was recycled in the USA in 1960 which accounted for
6.4% of the trash production in this year. The recycling in 1965 slightly declined but increased in 1970
when 6.6% waste recycling took place. In 1980, more than 14 million tons of garbage was recycled and
it developed by almost 2% after 5 years. After a decade, 16% of total waste was recycled and this ratio
after that increased steadily.
Almost one-third of the surplus was recycled in 2005 which amounted nearly 80 million tons. A
through observation indicates that a great percentage of scrap in the US is not recycled. For instance, 80
million tons, about 31% waste recycling figure in the US shows that another 160 million tons are not
recycled. Finally, in 2011, more than one-third rubbish was recycled which accounted for around 87
million tons of waste produced in the USA.

The charts below show the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time
spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019.

Percentage of households with electrical appliances (1920-2019)

Number of hours of housework* per week, per household (1920 - 2019)

housework* = washing clothes, preparing meals, cleaning

The line graphs show data on the ownership of household devices and the duration of housework
done by families in a country between 1920 and 2019.
Overall, the possession of household machines had significantly increased since 1930, with
refrigerators and vacuum cleaners being owned by every family. As a result, the amount of
housework needed to be done by people declined proportionately.
According to the first graph, refrigerators were a rare commodity in houses in 1920, but their presence
soared afterwards. Since 1980, every family in this country had been owning this device at home. A
similar, but much smoother trend can be observed with vacuum cleaners, which were presented at
3 of ten houses a century ago but are now held by 100% of all homes. Lastly, washing machines were
owned by 40% of families in 1920 and reached 70% in just four decades. These days, it has remained
just over 70%.
The second line chart indicates a direct correlation between the acquisition of essential household
tools and the amount of work required to be done at home. Household work amount dropped
dramatically from a high 50 hours per week in 1920 to a mere 10 hours per week in 2019.

Eating sweet foods produces acid in the mouth, which can cause tooth decay. (High acid levels
are measured by low pH values)
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where
relevant.
You should write at least 150 words.

The provided line graph illustrates the acid level in the mouth which is created by consuming sweet
foods specifically sugar and honey and the possibility of tooth decay because of this acid level. As is
presented in the line-graph, the higher the acid level the lower the pH value and a pH level less than
5.5 is detrimental to the tooth and causes the tooth decay.
The given graph shows that the initial pH level of our mouth is 7 which begins to fall after consuming
sweet foods. When we eat sweet item like cane sugar, the pH level drops to 3.5 after 5 minutes and
remain in danger level (below pH level 5.5) for more than 30 minutes. Consuming fruit sugar drops
the pH level nearly to 4 and remains at danger level for about 20 minutes. And finally, when we
eat honey, the pH level falls below 5 and it remains under risk level for about 13 minutes. As the
low pH level means higher acidity and causes tooth decay, cane sugar among the mentioned three
food items is the most harmful to our tooth.

The graph below shows the number of complaints made about noise to Environmental Health
authorities in the city of Newtown between 1980 and 1996.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where
relevant.
You should write at least 150 words.

The line graph provides data on the complaints on noise filed to the Newton’s Environmental
Health authorities from 1980 to 1996. Overall, the number of complaints made about four noise
sources increased over the 16-year period except for domestic noise, which actually declined.
In details, Environmental Health authorities in Newtown received over 600 household noise-related
objections in 1980 and that was the highest among the four categories of noise complaints this year.
Complaints about domestic noise kept on steadily declining with a few minor fluctuations till
it hit the trough of just around 100 complaints, the lowest in 1996.
Complaints lodged about traffic and roadwork noises showed a similar trend – both were
almost steady till 1998 and then soared rapidly afterwards. Traffic blare was responsible for
about 300 complaints, 200 fewer than that of road works, both of which remained unchanged till
1984 and then dropped to 200 and 300 respectively between 1986 and 1988. The number of
objections about both types of cacophony surged to the highest point in 1996, with over 1200
complaints about road works and 600 about traffic noise. In particular, 1200 complaints were the
highest number on the recorded objections made to authorities during the whole period.
Now turning to the complaints people made to authorities regarding noises from factories, it was
just 400 in 1980. It then rose to 700 in 1986, and afterwards, it levelled off with minimal oscillation
till 1996 when around 650 complaints were lodged.

relevant.
You should write at least 150 words.

Average monthly temperatures

The line graph displays the changes in temperature in three cities (Paris, Dubai and Sydney) in different
months of a year. Temperature is measured in Celsius degree.

Overall, the weather pattern in Sydney is quite the opposite of Dubai and Paris. Furthermore, Paris is the
coldest city among the three.

To begin with, the temperature in Paris never goes above 20 degrees. In contrast, Dubai seldom sees its
temperature below this level, except for January (19 degree C). However, despite the striking differences,
the temperatures in Paris and Dubai still have some similarities, as they rise continually from the
beginning of the year to reach a peak in August. The highest temperature in Paris and Dubai are 20 and
36 degrees, respectively. Afterwards, both cities became colder and the temperature fell steadily. As can
be seen, the differences in temperature between August and December in both Paris and Dubai are the
same, 15 degrees celsius.

Regarding Sydney, it witnesses 24 degree temperature in January. From there, the temperature drops
continuously before going down to the lowest point of 14 degrees in July. The five remaining months see
the temperature increase dramatically, to reach 23 degrees by the end of the year.

Number of enquiries to tourist Information office

The line graph outlines the number of queries a tourist information centre received during the first half
of 2001 via phone calls and letter/electronic mails as well as questionings made by people in person.
Generally speaking, people started making more enquiries in person after March 2001 while email and
letter query dropped.
As the graph suggests, the tourist information office received around 1800 enquiries from people in
January 2001 of which the maximum came through phones. Against 800 phone queries at that time they
got 600 emails and letters and 400 in-person visits from people regarding information. The number of
emails or postal queries dropped over the period and in June the office received only 200 such queries,
one-third than that of starting of the year. Interestingly, more people visited the office to log their
questions and this number reached to 1200 in the middle of the year. Though telephone enquiries were
predominant at the beginning of the year, they remained constant between January and April.
Afterwards, the telephone enquiries got higher and reached to about 1100 in June 2001, slightly lower
than the number of enquiries made in person. The total number of such prove made by people to this
tourist office increased to nearly 2500, almost 500 more enquiries than that of January.
