SUBJECT: Adhesive Lubricants for the Slew Ring Gear

PURPOSE: Release of new grease for manual lubrication

APPLICATION: PC3000-6, PC4000-6, PC5500-6, PC7000-6, PC8000-6

DESCRIPTION:

Transmitting torque from the slew pinion to the toothing of the slew ring ensures that the
superstructure slews. The resulting extreme forces requires that the gears which are
engaging one and other are separated with a film of grease in order to ensure shock
absorption and to prevent metallic abrasion.
Adhesive lubricants may be applied through an automatic slew ring gear lubrication
system or manually, using a spatula, a brush, or a spray tin. Automatic lubrication systems
provide the better protection, as lubrication is continuous and uninterrupted which means
permanent checks are not required.

 Independent of the lubricant and lubrication system, the
toothing should be visually checked approx. every 500 working
hours. If the check is not possible because of applied lubricant,
the toothing has to be cleaned at several points equally
distributed on the circumference of the slew ring. In cases of
wear or damages, our Service Department has to be informed
to discuss suitable remedies.
 These adhesive lubricants have totally different protection
features compared to the bearing greases / MPG (e.g. used in
the central lubrication system). These lubricants must not be
mixed or exchanged with each other.

Example: This may happen when grease (1) is pressed out of the
upper sealing system of the raceways and forms too big a
collar at the slew ring and so runs into the toothing (2).
This eventuality must be avoided by removing the excess
grease.

The following table includes several adhesive lubricants which provide excellent results on several
machines under different working conditions.
The products in this table are to be implemented. Use of other lubricants is not recommended
before consultation with KGM Service Department.

The manually lubrication has to be carried out with the following adhesive lubricants.
Those lubricants are suitable for all temperature ranges.
