SPECTRA - Moulded case circuit breakers
Seal
For extra safety, access to connection terminals and to controls can be
locked off while at the same time retaining visibility.
Degree of protection
Use In front, in accordance with the NF C 20-010 standard:
- basic circuit-breaker: IP 2X (E 160)
Spectra circuit-breakers provide a solution for three performance levels: IP 3X (E 250 to E 1250)
- normal breaking capacity, type EN - fixed or withdrawable circuit-breaker, with terminal covers:
- High breaking capacity, type EH IP 3X
- Limiter circuit-breaker, type EL
By adding or replacing elements, it is possible to perform the following Note: the addition of electrical control units, rotary control handle, earth-
functions: leakage units or the use of withdrawable devices does not affect the
- earth leakage protection, protection offered by the circuit-breaker
- visible breaking isolation.
Temperature derating
The maximum normal current for a circuit-breaker depends on the ambient
Breaking capacity (according to IEC 947-2 at 415V) temperature in which it is placed.
Icu (kA) This is concerned with the temperature around the circuit-breaker:
- either the ambient temperature when the circuit-breaker is installed in the
open air
100 - or the air inside the box or casing which the circuit-breaker is encased.
The reference (test) temperature for all Spectra circuit-breakers is 400C.
EL EL EL EL Derating is not automatic, the rating plug must be selected according to the
160 250 400 630 ambient temperature around the circuit-breaker.

The great limiting capacity of Spectra circuit berakers is a result of the
optimal combination of: Thermal constraints limited as a function of the actual intensity of the
- a light moving part, reducing inertia, short-circuit
- a strong current loop, to generate maximum force of repulsion,
- a slot motor with strong electro-magnetic field to accelerate the opening of A² s
the contacts E800/1250

This combination has enabled an exceptional breaking capacity /volume H

The use of Spectra limiter circuit-breakers enables a great reduction in
E250
stresses that normally develop during a short-circuit: H L
- Reduction in thermal constraints in conductors, increasing their life. N E160
106 H
- Reduction in mechanical constraints due to the reduction of the N
electrodynamic forces of repulsion between conductors, which reduces
the risk of deformation or rupture of the wiring
- Reduction in electro-magnetic effects.
The electro-magnetic field reduces and causes less damage to 105
neighbouring devices and sensors.
Rationalisation
Spectra limiter circuit breakers offer multiple advantages:
- reduction in the volume of boxes and cabinets, kA eff.
- reduction in logistic costs because of the smaller volume, 104
- possibility of connecting circuit breakers with smaller capacity downline. 1 10 30 50 70 100

Electrical auxiliaries
General
BA bell alarms, AS auxiliary "ON/OFF" switches, ST voltmetric shunt
releases and UV undervoltage releases are common to all Spectra circuit
breakers,
e.g.: an AS auxiliary "ON/OFF" switch can be installed equally well on an E
160 or E 1250 circuit breaker.
Thus it is not necessary to specify the type of circuit-breaker. Only the
release voltage and the type of contact (standard or low level) has to be
indicated with the order.

On each circuit breaker, ducts for the wiring are provided enabling the
