SPECTRA - Moulded case circuit breakers

General chracteristics Description

Spectra "Moulded case" circuit-breakers with electronic protection are
available in three and four pole versions, in fixed or withdrawable formats.
The Spectra circuit-breakers have individual rating plugs and enable
protected distribution of electricity within a current range of 20 and 1250 A.

Suitability for visible isolation

Spectra circuit-breakers are ideal for fully visible isolation selection:
With the handle free, the indication "open" (green display) is only possible
B when the main contacts are separated by a distance of > 20 mm.
Spectra circuit-breakers conform to standards: IEC 947-3,
2 NF C 79-130 and CNOMO recommendations (protection of machine tools).

Double, forward-facing insulation

Spectra circuit-breakers are provided with forward-facing sockets designed
for insertion of internal electrical auxilliaries in situ without the need to
interrupt the power supply.
The sockets are completely insulated from the power circuit.

Seal
For extra safety, access to connection terminals and to controls can be
locked off while at the same time retaining visibility.
Degree of protection
Use In front, in accordance with the NF C 20-010 standard:
- basic circuit-breaker: IP 2X (E 160)
Spectra circuit-breakers provide a solution for three performance levels: IP 3X (E 250 to E 1250)
- normal breaking capacity, type EN - fixed or withdrawable circuit-breaker, with terminal covers:
- High breaking capacity, type EH IP 3X
- Limiter circuit-breaker, type EL
By adding or replacing elements, it is possible to perform the following Note: the addition of electrical control units, rotary control handle, earth-
functions: leakage units or the use of withdrawable devices does not affect the
- earth leakage protection, protection offered by the circuit-breaker
- visible breaking isolation.
Temperature derating
The maximum normal current for a circuit-breaker depends on the ambient
Breaking capacity (according to IEC 947-2 at 415V) temperature in which it is placed.
Icu (kA) This is concerned with the temperature around the circuit-breaker:
- either the ambient temperature when the circuit-breaker is installed in the
open air
100 - or the air inside the box or casing which the circuit-breaker is encased.
The reference (test) temperature for all Spectra circuit-breakers is 400C.
EL EL EL EL Derating is not automatic, the rating plug must be selected according to the
160 250 400 630 ambient temperature around the circuit-breaker.

Traditional electronic protection devices are based on the measurement of
the peak value of the current and the deduction of the RMS value.
This method is accurate on condition that: The current sensor output signal

- loads are increasingly active.
Under these conditions, traditional electronic breakers are completely
unsuitable. According to the network/load couple, it will create an "over-
protection" or an "underprotection". Spectra samples more than 30 times per cycle.

Spectra limiter circuit breakers offer multiple advantages:

Measuring the fault

The sensor consists of a detection magnetic core. The core is made from a Characteristics
high permability magnetic alloy meeting the requirements of IEC 947.2,

50/60 Hz
Processing the measurement Switchable version
The processing circuit comprises: instantaneous fixed threshold (A) 0.03
- a filter F threshold: Mult. position (A) 0.3 - 1-3
- a comparator C
time delay (ms) 0 - 100 - 300 - 500
- a timer T
In the event of a fault, the contact I closes.
The rectifier simultaneously powers the voltmetric release ST and the Standards
warning light V: The differential MIR units comply with:
- the warning light changes - IEC 947-2
- the voltmetric shunt release opens the circuit breaker (the open command - NF C 60-130
can be made permanent). - NF C 61-141 (additional clause)
The warning light V cannot be reset (using the RZ button) until the fault has - NF C 62-411
been rectified and the circuit breaker closed.

Electrical auxiliaries
General
BA bell alarms, AS auxiliary "ON/OFF" switches, ST voltmetric shunt
releases and UV undervoltage releases are common to all Spectra circuit
breakers,
e.g.: an AS auxiliary "ON/OFF" switch can be installed equally well on an E
160 or E 1250 circuit breaker.
Thus it is not necessary to specify the type of circuit-breaker. Only the
release voltage and the type of contact (standard or low level) has to be
indicated with the order.

socket is provided for this).

On each circuit breaker, ducts for the wiring are provided enabling the
passage of the cables to the right, left, or to the rear side of the device,
without increasing its original dimensions.

Electrical control for Operation

E 400 - E 630 - E 800 - E 1250 circuit breakers The accumulation of energy (compression of the spring), requires rapid
closure of the circuit breaker, and is performed automatically with the
opening of the electrical control unit.
- closing: depressing the "ON" button (BPM) powers the closing electronics
EF, releasing the spring and closing the circuit breaker.
- opening: depressing the stop/reset (BPA) button powers the motor which
opens the circuit breaker and resets the spring.
Power is cut at the limit of the movement by the limit swicth (FC) contact ;
the circuit breaker is thus ready for a new closure.
- opening by an ST or UV release, overload or short-circuit or
"TEST" button with resetting required by depressing the BPA button or if

necessary by means of local emergency controls. 19
Any tripping of a circuit breaker requires closing or resetting of the electrical

resetting obligatory.
