BOBBY — 1/9 — SEPT. 14 19.

MARISSA
Shit. Just park.

Mike flips it back into drive, rolls in, parking next to a

brand new Range Rover. Janice eyes down the van curiously.

MIKE
It’s okay. We got this.

MARISSA
Yeah. We got this...

After Mike parks, they each take a breath, ready themselves,

then walk out of the van toward this oversized house.

INT. JANICE & BOBBY’S HOUSE - DINING ROOM

Mike and Marissa sit at a beautiful dining room table across

from BOBBY and JANICE, food on everyone’s plates. This house
is just as impressive on the inside. If you asked someone to
draw a New Jersey cop, they’d draw Bobby. Janice is wearing
an ugly purple dress and drinking a huge glass of wine.

FYI JANICE
So, Mike, Ris, tell me...
(a big ol’ grin)
...how’s the dorm?

Marissa instantly tenses up.

MARISSA
Janice, you know... it’s--

MIKE
Only temporary. We’ll be out of
there in a few weeks.

SCENE #1 Mike flashes Marissa boxer hands. Bob and weave.

START MIKE (CONT’D)
This new house of yours though...
this is something else.

BOBBY
Thanks, Mikey. The price was right,
so we decided to go for it. I got a
nice bump in pay last year.

JANICE
My Bobby made Captain.

Marissa rolls her eyes at “my Bobby.”

BOBBY — 2/9 — SEPT. 14 20.

BOBBY
Plus, Janice’s salon is crushing.

JANICE
Our salon.

BOBBY
Please, Jan, you know that’s all
you. Anyway, it’s been a good few
years on our end. But forget all
that, tonight is about you guys!
It’s great to have you home!

Bobby gives Marissa a discreet once over. She notices, but

pretends not to.

BOBBY (CONT’D)
You both look great.

MIKE
Thank you. I agree.

JANICE
I partially agree. My sister looks
great.

Mike drops his fork.

MIKE
Why’d you gotta be an asshole? Like
right out the gate.

JANICE
I’m not being an asshole.

MIKE
How is that not being an asshole?

JANICE
I was just being honest. Ris, you
look great. Mike... status quo.

BOBBY
Alright, Jan--

MIKE
Were you “just being honest” when
you talked shit about me on TV?

MARISSA
Let’s not do this again.

JANICE
Thank you.
BOBBY — 3/9 — SEPT. 14 21.

MARISSA
But, Jan, you really shouldn’t have
done that interview.

JANICE
They said they were gonna make it
whether I did the interview or not.

MIKE
So then why did you do it!? How
much did they pay you?

BOBBY
You think she got paid for that?

MIKE
Hang on, you talked shit about me
for free!? That’s so much worse!

Janice shrugs.

MIKE (CONT’D)
And you have the nerve to talk
about my looks when here you are,
sitting over there looking like
Barney the fucking Dinosaur.

Marissa laughs, almost spitting out her wine.

Now Janice drops her fork.

MIKE (CONT’D)
The purple isn’t a good look.
(to Bobby)
I’m sorry, Bobby, it’s just not.
You look fantastic, by the way.

JANICE
Who are you to give anyone fashion
advice? Have you seen yourself?

BOBBY
Jan, pump the brakes--

JANICE
You look like an old couch.

MIKE
What the fuck does that even mean?

JANICE
Like a couch waiting on the curb
for special pick-up to take it...
but it rained the night before.
BOBBY — 4/9 — SEPT. 14 22.

MIKE
I look like a wet garbage couch!?

JANICE
That’s exactly right.

MIKE
Out of line, Janice!

JANICE
Out of line? You just called me a
dinosaur, asshole!

BOBBY
(with a slight laugh)
Alright, please, come on... stand
down, truce. This is a good day.

Mike and Janice nonverbally agree to stick a pin in this...

until another day. They both pick their forks back up.

BOBBY (CONT’D)
Thank you very much. Now... Jan,
isn’t there something you wanted to
ask Marissa?

JANICE
Oh. Yeah.

MARISSA
What? What did you wanna ask?

JANICE
It’s just... I know you have no
income right now.

MARISSA
Janice, no... we don’t need a loan.

JANICE
I’m not offering one. But if you
wanted a chair at my salon...

MARISSA
Wait, for real?

Mike and Marissa share a look. Marissa’s eyes read, “That

actually would be helpful...”

MARISSA (CONT’D)
That’d actually be great, Jan. I
was gonna start looking.
BOBBY — 5/9 — SEPT. 14 23.

JANICE
Don’t bother. You’d be doing me a
favor. We have more business than
we can handle right now.

MARISSA
Well, okay... yeah. Thanks, Jan.

BOBBY
Look at that, family helping
family.
(raises his glass)
Salud!

They all cheers their drinks. While they do, Bobby gives
Marissa another look. This time they lock eyes for an
instant, clearly making Marissa uncomfortable. She quickly
looks away.

BOBBY (CONT’D)
So, anyway, Mikey, the big job.
How’s being back at Paterson?

MIKE
Truthfully... great. SCENE #1
BOBBY
END
Love to hear it. The prodigal son
returns.

MIKE
That’s right, baby. Yeah, I can’t
lie, it’s been nothing but smooth
sailing so far.

EXT. THE CAMPUS NEWS BUILDING

Establishing shot of the University of Paterson’s Campus News

building, in the audio-video wing of the school.

MIKE (PRE-LAP)
This is gonna be fun.

INT. THE CAMPUS NEWS TV SET

Just off set, Mike is getting ready for his Campus News
interview. A MEDIA STUDENT is getting him all mic’d up.

Mike looks at the set. The host isn’t that goofy kid who he
and Marissa watched the other day. It’s SUE PAK (20), 5-foot-
tall, glasses, shuffling through papers and notes as she
talks to a TEACHER, the show’s producer.
BOBBY — 6/9 — SEPT. 14
SCENE INT. MIKE AND MARISSA’S DORM ROOM
#2 START We pick up right where we left off last episode - Marissa
standing in the doorway, unhappy to be staring at Bobby.

BOBBY
I think we gotta talk.

MARISSA
No. We definitely don’t. Bobby,
what are you doing here?

Marissa looks down the hall both ways, obviously nervous.

BOBBY
Mike’s down at the Levee.

MARISSA
I know.

BOBBY
I’m just saying, I saw him there,
he’s not leaving anytime soon. I
bought him a beer. He’s talking to
Craig about the sicko who used to
whack off in the bar.
(proud)
I busted the piece of shit.

MARISSA
I have no clue what the fuck that
means, Bobby.

BOBBY
Don’t worry about it. Ris, look,
can I just come in?

MARISSA
Absolutely not!

BOBBY
But you don’t even know what I
wanna talk about.

MARISSA
The hell I don’t. It’s the same
thing you tried talking about at
your daughter’s graduation. Then
you got all weird when we saw each
other at my Uncle Paul’s funeral.

BOBBY
You looked so hot at that funeral.
That little black dress.
BOBBY — 7/9 — SEPT. 14 2.

MARISSA
Everyone woman there wore a black
dress. It was a funeral!

BOBBY
Yeah, but you really wore it, Ris.
I mean, pow.

MARISSA
Bobby--

BOBBY
Ris, can we just talk?

MARISSA
There’s nothing to talk about!
(leans in, quieter)
We slept together once... in 1997!
That was a lifetime ago.

BOBBY
Seems like yesterday to me.

MARISSA
Does it? Bobby, Jordan was still
playing for the Bulls. Clinton was
in the White House.

BOBBY
Simpler times...

MARISSA
Seriously? Did you take a hard hit
on the job? Do you have a brain
injury I should know about?

BOBBY
No, but I appreciate the concern.

MARISSA
Bobby, it was a mistake. Mike had
just gotten 10 more months, I was
in a bad place, and I’ve regretted
it every day since.

BOBBY
Every day? Ris, you weren’t even
married yet. And neither was I!

MARISSA
But you were engaged! To my sister!
Jesus Christ, if Janice ever
knew...
BOBBY — 8/9 — SEPT. 14 3.

BOBBY
She doesn’t know. Does Mike?

MARISSA
No!

BOBBY
Then we’re good. And maybe it was a SCENE
mistake back then, maybe, but
now... you’re still a stone cold #2 END
10. And I’ve been hitting the gym.

Bobby tries to make his muscles pop through his t-shirt, then
runs a comb through his hair. Marissa rolls her eyes.

MARISSA
You’re still an idiot.

BOBBY
And you’re still beautiful.
(looks her up and down)
I mean... pow.

MARISSA
Stop saying “pow!”

BOBBY
My kids are all grown and out of
the house, you’re back home, living
10 minutes away. Maybe now’s the
time we... revisit it, you know?
How about I come in?

Bobby looks passed Marissa, motioning to a bed in her room.

MARISSA
Sorry, do you mean we should
revisit this now? As in we go have
sex in one of those twin beds?

BOBBY
FYI ONLY. Well...
NOT FOR MARISSA
AUDITION Holy fuck, Bobby, you listen and
you listen good. Not happening. Not
now, not ever. Leave this alone!

BRAD, the dorm RA who tries to be cool, walks up in pajamas.

BRAD
Sorry, don’t mean to be a buzzkill,
but as this floor’s RA... visitors
aren’t allowed this late.
BOBBY — 9/9 — SEPT. 14 4.

Bobby FLASHES HIS BADGE in Doug’s face.

BOBBY
Jersey Police. Go away.

FYI ONLY. BRAD

Oh... is there a problem?
NOT FOR
BOBBY
AUDITION I’m investigating a double
homicide.

Brad stands back, eyes wide, instantly shook.

MARISSA
No, he’s not. Bobby... just go.

After a beat, Bobby relents, putting his badge away.

BOBBY
Alright, but we’re gonna talk about
this another time.

Bobby starts off down the hall. Marissa calls after.

MARISSA
No we won’t, Bobby.

Bobby walks into a stairwell.

BRAD
You sure you’re okay?

MARISSA
Yeah, Brad. Go back to sleep.
(looks at him)
Sweet pajamas.

Marissa walks back into the room, closing the door shut.

INT. DORM HALLWAY - LATER

It’s late. Mike walks down the hall with a drunk grin on his
face, a small plastic bag in his hand.

INT. MIKE & MARISSA'S DORM ROOM - CONTINUOUS

Mike enters. The lights are out. Marissa lays in bed asleep.

MIKE
Hey, sorry I’m a little late.

He looks at Marissa.
