ELI 1/7 19.

DANI (O.S.)
MOOOM! Where’d you put my coat?!
JENNA
Duty calls.
She shoots them a tired smile, heads out of the room.
Brett and Kayley exchange a glance as they find themselves
alone. As they search for something to say, Eli re-enters,
still on the phone - he looks worried.

START SC.1 ELI

(into phone)
Don’t worry, I’ll find a way to
make it happen. Take care.
He hangs up. Brett notices the anxious look on his face.
BRETT
Bad news?
ELI
Gabby’s stuck in Chicago due to the
storm.
BRETT
Aw, no... Can she still help you
with the Christmas festival?
ELI
Not really. It may look like we put
the event on together but she’s the
one who does all of the creative
organizing. I don’t know how I’m
going to handle it without her.

BRETT
Well, I guess this is your lucky
day. Kayley here is one of the best
event planners in New York.
Kayley widens her eyes at the statement.
ELI
She is?
BRETT
Yeah, I’m sure she could easily
help you to plan the festival.
ELI
Oh, that would really put my mind
at ease!
ELI 2/7 20.

KAYLEY
Um, I kind of need to prioritize my
event for The Dalton...
ELI
I promise it won’t take up too much
of your time, just a few hours here
and there. It could be your way of
paying me back for letting you stay
here for free?
He shoots her a cheeky grin. Kayley takes a beat, knowing
that she has to say yes.
KAYLEY
Okay, sure. I’m happy to help.
ELI
Oh, thank you! We’ve never had a
professional event planner help
with the festival before - this
will be a real treat!
KAYLEY
Now that I’m thinking about it,
Brett doesn’t have much to do while
he’s in town. I think he should be
my assistant.

ELI
That’s a great idea!
KAYLEY
(grinning at Brett)
I think so too.
Brett narrows his eyes at Kayley, shoots his uncle a smile.
BRETT
I’d be happy to help.

ELI
Wonderful! You can start after
breakfast. I have an important task
that urgently needs doing. END SC.1

20 INT. LIVING AREA, REDWOOD GUESTHOUSE - DAY 20

Brett and Kayley sit on the floor unpicking a large mound of

tangled Christmas lights. Kayley lets out an exhausted huff.
KAYLEY
This is going to take forever.
ELI 3/7 31.

KAYLEY
With my forty-six, that’s over one
hundred! You guys are lifesavers.
There’s a KNOCK at the front door. Eli heads to the hallway.
ELI
I just hope your party guests
appreciate our efforts.

29 INT. HALLWAY, REDWOOD GUESTHOUSE - DAY - CONTINUOUS 29

Eli opens the front door. His eyes widen with surprise as he
finds CHRISTIE ORNSTEIN (55) a beautiful woman with dark wavy
hair, standing on the doorstep.

START SC.2 ELI

Christie?
CHRISTIE
(grins)
Hi, Eli.
Eli blinks at Christie like a love-struck teen.
ELI
Wow, I... I haven’t seen you in
twenty years.
(quickly pulls off his
Santa hat)
How’ve you been?
CHRISTIE
I’ve been good, thanks. How are
you?

Brett and Kayley lean out of the living room with curiosity.
ELI
All good here, thanks. You visiting
your mom for the holidays?
CHRISTIE
No, I’ve actually moved back to
town. My mom had an operation so I
thought I’d come take care of her.
ELI
You always did have a kind soul.
CHRISTIE
And you always had a knack for
putting a smile on my face.
ELI 4/7 32.

They share a grin which makes Brett and Kayley raise a brow.
CHRISTIE (CONT'D)
Anyway, I heard that Gabby is stuck
in Chicago so I thought I’d stop by
to see if you need help with the
Christmas festival.
ELI
Oh, that’s real kind of you. I
actually do need help...
(quickly adds)
...with the festival, I mean. I
need to make two hundred cookies
but I have no idea how to bake.

CHRISTIE
Well, luckily for you, I’m an
excellent baker. I’d be happy to
help.
ELI
You would?
CHRISTIE
Sure. Perhaps you could come over
and we could bake them together?

ELI
(blinks with surprise)
That would be, um... that would be
great.
CHRISTIE
Great.
ELI
Great.
CHRISTIE
Give me a call to arrange a day.
She leaves with a smile. Eli gives her a dumbfounded wave,
closes the door. He turns round, finds Brett and Kayley
grinning at him.
BRETT
Who was that?
ELI
Just an old pal from school.
ELI 5/7 33.

BRETT
From the way you were looking at
each other she’s definitely more
than an old pal.
KAYLEY
I saw full-on heart eyes.
ELI
Okay, I may have had a teeny tiny
crush on her back in the day, but
it’s not like that anymore.
BRETT
I think it’s very much like that.

KAYLEY
Yeah, you just got yourself a date.
ELI
With Christie Ornstein?! I don’t
think so... She was the most
popular girl in school, she’d never
be interested in a nerd like me.
BRETT
We’ll see. The proof is in the
pudding.

KAYLEY
Or, in this case, the cookie dough.
ELI
Alright, little elves, that’s
enough teasing for one day. Go get
changed before I throw you back out
in the snow.
Brett and Kayley grin as Eli shoos them away. END SC.2

30 INT. LIVING AREA, REDWOOD GUESTHOUSE - DAY - LATER 30

Brett comes downstairs wearing his regular clothing. He puts

on the TV, grins as he finds the football game that he wanted
to watch. As he sits down on the couch, someone KNOCKS on the
front door. He calls out:
BRETT
Uncle...?
No answer. He sighs, gets back up.
ELI 6/7 92.

He gets up, heads to the kitchen. Kayley lowers her eyes.

KAYLEY
(to herself)
I’ll take that as a no.

85 INT. LIVING AREA, REDWOOD GUESTHOUSE - NIGHT - LATER 85

Eli heads downstairs wearing his dressing gown. The room is

dark and silent, everyone else now in bed.
A smile fills his face as he sees a row of handmade stockings
hanging over the fireplace: Eli, Dani, Mummy, Daddy, Uncle
Brett, Kayley...

86 INT. KITCHEN, REDWOOD GUESTHOUSE - NIGHT - MOMENTS LATER 86

Eli enters, raises a brow as he finds Brett sat at the

breakfast bar watching a football game on his phone.

START SC.3 ELI

Hey... finally watching your game?
BRETT
Yeah. I couldn’t sleep.

ELI
(grins)
Somebody on your mind?
Brett shoots his uncle a glare. Eli chuckles, fetches himself
a glass of water.
ELI (CONT'D)
I’m just saying, you and Kayley
make a good couple... I can tell
you like her, she makes you smile.
BRETT
Yeah, well, it doesn’t matter how I
feel. She’s just broken up with
someone else. Plus we’ve only known
each other for four days.
ELI
So?
BRETT
So what if we want different
things? The only thing we have in
common is that we have the same
suitcase.
ELI 7/7 93.

ELI
That’s not true. You both live in
New York, you both share a fondness
for collecting tacky gift shop
souvenirs...
Brett shoots his uncle a wry look.
ELI (CONT'D)
You also challenge each other,
which is an important ingredient
for any new relationship.
BRETT
(shakes his head)
I don’t want to be a rebound.
ELI
I know, but you also don’t want any
regrets. You’ll be going home soon,
you might not get another chance to
tell her how you feel. Don’t be
like me, it took me thirty years to
ask Christie to dance.
Brett shoots his uncle a smile.
ELI (CONT'D)
Go get some sleep, it’s already
past midnight.
BRETT
(smiles)
Then I guess I should wish you a
Happy Christmas Eve.
ELI
My goodness, yes!
The two share a hug.

ELI (CONT'D)
I know you’d rather be in New York
with Jaden, but it means a lot to
have you here for the holidays.
BRETT
It means a lot to me too. I promise
I’ll visit more often.
ELI
You’re more than welcome to come
back next Christmas and be one of
my elves. END SC.3
