Developing an Instrumentation Diagram • Ammonia production is an exothermic reaction. However, it is carried out at higher temperatures to obtain higher production rate. Being a gaseous phase reaction, it is susceptible to both temperature and pressure of reactant gases. Ammonia converter is considered heart of the production plant and requires sophisticated safety conditions and instrumentation. Ammonia converter consists of three beds of catalyst-Fe3O4. The gas temperature rises to 350C after each pass and needs to be cool down. It is usually done by passing it through the heat exchanger with one of the reactant gases as the cold fluid. The conversion in first, second and third beds are 35%, 65% and 95% respectively. Nitrogen is fed in ammonia converter at 300C and 200 bar at a rate of 300m3/hr. Hydrogen is coming from the Natural gas cracker at 300C and 200 bar. The temperature and pressure of the converter should be maintained at 300C and 200 bar. Design Instrumentation Diagram to maintain the process condition and ensure safety. Quiz-4 • Deadline 29 Dec, 7 pm. • Send via email
