JetX-100V2

INSTRUCTION MANUAL

READ BEFORE USE

WARNING

It is forbidden to use the JetX-100V2 propulsion system outside the water. Mechanical
seal and bearings can be easily damaged as there is no water to cool down those
sensitive parts.

Never put hands inside the jet pump inlet or outlet when it’s in operational state as
there is a high risk of injury caused by rotating impeller.

Don’t try to modify the JetX-100V2 propulsion system!

Do not expose the JetX-100V2 propulsion system to heat higher than 100°C or
Acetone and other similar chemicals.

1. Assembly

1.1 Sealing

Propulsion system is assembled from three main parts: main housing, nozzle and impeller
with a shaft. Nozzle and main housing both have grove for a seal ring. Make sure the seal is
mounted correctly, otherwise it can leak when the pressure is made.

Bottom part of the main housing has to be glued with silicone on your watercraft hull.

We advise to use marine grade silicone seal at the jet outlet also to prevent any leakage due
to uneven surface of the watercraft hull and it will make a tight seal even if seal ring isn’t
placed optionally.

If you detect a water leak, turn off the electronics and move the battery to a dry safe place
and repeat the sealing process.

1.2 Fastening points

All the fastening points have inserted M4 brass threaded inserts for easier installation and for
better water tightness. Care must be taken when tightening the screws as you can damage
the housing or the threaded inserts! Do not use too long bolts - if you feel that bolt came to
the end of thread stop tightening it and use a shorter bolt to prevent damaging the housing.

1.3 Impeller and shaft

Impeller is locked on the shaft with two M4 no head bolts. When replacing the impeller first
screw in one bolt to align the holes. Once the holes are aligned gradually tighten both
screws until the end of the thread.

When installing the impeller with shaft in the main housing make sure that shaft is pushed all
the way in and stops when it reaches the bearing.

Circular rubber is installed at the end of the shaft touching the impeller. When the pump is
assembled the rubber should be between the impeller and the ceramic bearing in the nozzle.

When using the pump for the first time, the impeller can slip against the casing due to tight
tolerances. Over time, this phenomenon disappears.

1.4 Nozzle

Jet units can include a nozzle without steering function and it’s usually used for surfboards.
Nozzle that offers steering comes pre assembled and is attached to a jet pump the same
way as nozzle without steering function. In the case of the steering nozzle set, the steering
rod for turning the nozzle is not included. Rod has to be connected to a steering lever on the
nozzle with a M5 bolt. Steering is achieved with a linear movement of the steering rod back
and forth. Position of the moving part of the nozzle can be rotated for 180° and because of
that left and right steering rod placements are supported.

Nozzle is attached with 5 mounting bolts with the next sequence: thruster housing - vessel
wall - nozzle.

1.5 Intake shield

Intake shield is in built in jet unit housing and can’t be disassembled.

1.6 Flexible coupling and the mechanical seal

When tightening flexible coupling first align the small no head bolt with a shaft grove then
tighten the clamp bolt first (20Nm) and after that also tighten small no head bolt to prevent
any slipping.

Mechanical seal has a spring inside and needs to be compressed with coupling towards the
ceramic ring on the main housing.

2. usage

JetX-100V2 propulsion system can be used in many different watercrafts like surfboard,
kayak, small boat, big scale rc boats, underwater scooter…

It can be driven from an electric or gasoline engine. Please note that this thruster needs a
strong motor to produce high thrust. It should not reach higher rpm than 12.000 rpm/min.

3. Maintenance

After every usage in salt water, washing the pump system with fresh water is necessary.
Spin the pump in fresh water to flush all the cooling channels in the main housing to remove
all salt residue.

Bearings are ceramic and they don’t need any maintenance.

4. Cooling system

First cooling stage cools down the ceramic bearing and the shaft, and the second stage is
used to cool down your electric or gasoline engine and your electronics. If you don’t need the
second stage you simply bypass it from outlet to inlet with a short tube. First stage is always
in operational mode and takes care of the constant cooling of the bearing. With this cooling
technique there is no need for an external tube in the nozzle which then needs to be
conducted inside the vessel. There is no pressure loss with this cooling system since both
cooling circles have outlets directly in the suction system.
Brass pipe on the right side provides cold water and the brass pipe on the left side is where
you connect your outlet hose for hot water from your motor or electronics.

5. Kit assembly

The kit consists of a jet thruster, motor mount, motor, motor controller and optionally remote
control.

5.1 Motor mount

Motor mount can be easily disassembled by unscrewing five M5 allen key bolts. Motor
controller position can be changed with unscrewing one M5 allen key bolt of controller
bracket. Motor ontroller can be attached anywhere else in your watercraft, just make sure to
keep effective water cooling.
When attaching a motor to the motor mount be careful when putting cables through a
specially made opening to not damage them. Coolant hoses also need to go through
specially made openings to prevent any grinding along the shaft.

5.2 Motor

Kit can include a 15kW motor or 25kW motor. Motor dimensions are exactly the same,
except the 25kW is longer for 15mm and heavier. The motor is attached to a motor mount
with 10 M4 screws. If the motor gets wet, turn off the power and dry it as it's not waterproof.

5.3 Motor Controller

Motor Controller is attached to the motor mount bracket with four M3 bolts. When connecting
the controller to a motor wires make sure it’s not connected to a battery and no lights are
turned on. Controller programming is made with Vesc tool
(https://vesc-project.com/vesc_tool) . Controllers in kits are pre-programed with basic
functions that can be changed by a user itself on their own risk. Highest operating voltage is
67V (16S) and BUS current 150A! Phase current has to be limited at 250A in the vesc tool if
using voltage higher than 60V. If abnormal heat is generated during use, stop using motor
controller. If motor controller gets wet, turn off the power and dry it.

5.4 Remote

Remote includes a receiver that has to be plugged into the motor controller port. It can be
used in two different ways:

NRF- Most often used connection - it offers all the supported readings on the remote control
lcd screen.

PPM - Most simple connection - it does not offer readings on remote control lcd screen like
power, battery level etc.

When switching between those modes with switching cable connection, software also needs
to be modified ( from NRF to PPM).
Detailed remote control instruction manuals can be found in the remote control case.
