DESCRIPTION:

Jaw crusher is primary crushing equipment used for crushing of materials.

Blake type crusher, with movable jaw pivoted at top, giving greatest movement

to small lumps. This type of crusher has a movable crushing plate, usually

corrugated, fixed in a vertical position. Eccentric mechanism is used to move jaw

in a reciprocating motion.

SPECIFICATIONS:

SIZE – 1200 mm X 600 mm approx.

Motor: 3 HP.

V belts: 2nos. C

INSTALLATION:

Cement foundation of size 1500 mm X 700 mm X 300 mm ht. (150 mm in ground)

CONNECTIONS:

3 phase electric supply with 3 phase DP.

PRECAUTIONS:

 Lumps to be crushed should be not more than size of 70 mm.

 Material to be crushed should be dry enough to flow down. Wet material

may stick to jaw and may block equipment.

 Feed material slowly so that it should pass down.

 Energy meter must be installed properly, so that its rotating wheel

rotates properly.

TROBLESHOOTING:

 NOISE: check oil.

 Chocking: remove material manually using a scrapper.

 Belt slip: pull motor back so that belts should tight.

 OILING: once in a week oil – 20W/40.

WORKING PRINCIPLE:

Jaw crusher is reduction equipment also called as impact braker. This particular

type of Jaw crusher is eccentric jaw crusher having swinging jaw mounted as well as

forward motion. The upper and swing jaw is held in position against toggle by tent

ion rod, Greater wear caused by this motion and direct transmittal of shocks to the

bearing limit its use to readily breakable material. However a large reduction ratio

useful for simplified low tonnage circulate with fewer grinding steps is possible.

AIM:

To crush the given sample and verify Bond's law of crushing.

PROCEDURE:

1. Take 5 kg. Of feed.

2. Note the initial size of feed.

3. Switch on jaw crusher and note down the time required for one revolution of

energy meter under no load condition.

4. Charge jaw crusher with feed.

5. Note down time required for one revolution of energy meter under load

condition.

6. Note down time required for crushing of sample.

7. Collect sample and screen it.

CALCULATIONS:

1. Bond crushing law and work index.

Bond postulated that the work required to form particles of size Dp from very

large feed is proportional to the square root of the surface –to-volume ratio of

the product, Sp/Vp. By equation, -

P/m = Kb/ Dp.

Where Kb is a constant, it depends on the material being crushed. The work

index Wi can be defined as the gross energy requirement in Kwh per ton of feed

needed to reduce a very large feed to such a size that 80% of the product

passes a standard mesh of required size. This definition leads to a relation

between Kb and Wi. If Dp is in mm, Pin kWh, and m in tons/hr,

Kb = 100 X 10 ³ Wi = 0.3162Wi.

P/m = 0.3162Wi(1/Dpb – 1/ Dpa)

The work indexes include the friction in crusher.

Note: work index Wi for different materials is given in ‘units operations of

chemical engg. By McCabe – smith.

REASULTS:

By above calculations crushing laws are verified.

BLAKE JAW CRUSHER

A: Instruction for safe operations.

2. Rotate fly wheel by hand and be sure that it is rotating free before starting

machine. Be sure that there is no blockage of jaws.

3. Check electrical earthing and connections time to tome by electrician.

4. Oiling to eccentric mechanism is must for every time. Don’t switch on

machine without oililng and greasing.

5. Don’t start machine without guard and hopper.

6. Do not run machine above the normal working conditions i.e. Excessive feed

or unusual large size of feed.

7. Recommended Technical grade of oil or grease.

AIM:

To estimate power required for given blake jaw crusher and to determine

Rittinger’s constant and Bond’s Constant .

APPRATUS (WITH THE MACHINE):

Trays, 5 kg bricks as feed – break into pieces of AVg size 6 cm, vibrating screens

or sieve shaker, electronic weight balance , two stop watch.

THEORY:

It works on the principal of compression. It consists of pair of flywheel, an

eccentric, pitman, toggle bars, one stationery jaw and one moving jaw. In a jaw

crusher feed is admitted between two jaws. Movable jaw is driven by eccentric.

The eccentric drives the pitman. Pitman makes the reciprocating motion in the
vertical direction. The toggle bars transform the vertical motion of pitman in to

reciprocating motion of movable jaw. Large lumps caught in the upper part of the

jaw are broken and drop in the narrower Space below and are recrushed when the

jaws come closer. After sufficient reduction crushed material drop out of the

machine. The jaws open and close 250 to 400 times per minute. The Movable jaw

(swinging jaw) makes an angle of 20˚to 30˚with the anvil jaw (fixed jaw).

It is used for size reduction of hard Rock and coal.

PROCEDURE:

1. Take 10 kg of sample of brick (avg. feed size = 6 cm, break in such pieces).

2. Switch on crusher and note down reading 0 energy meter at empty run in

known time to see.

3. Admit sample to crusher and note down reading of energy meter for known

time 1 sec.

4. Switch off machine and take a screen analysis of sample for different sizes

i.e. 1/¼” , 1”, ¾”, ½”, ¼” and more fine.

5. Remaining sample i.e. fine particles screen and also sample collected in pan.

6. Weigh mass of sample retained on each screen and also sample collected in

pan.

7. Calculate cumulative mass fraction of undersize and oversize.

And plot graph

CALCULATION:

For brick density is given by = p =2450 kg/m³ = 2.45 gm/cc

Constants: a=2; = 1.5

P = Work required in KW

M = Mass of feed.

= Constant.

WORK INDEX:

If 80% of feed passes through a mesh size of mm and 80% of product passes

through mash of m it follows as-

OBSERVATION:

1. Weight of broken pieces (of Avg. size - 6 cm)= ------------- kg.

2. Average feed size = ------------- inch.
