During the 1970s, Filipino social


psychologist Virgilio Enriquez
developed Sikolohiyang Pilipino
which was a theory of Filipino
personhood anchored on
indigenous concepts and
methods.

Three Eras of Sikolohiyang Pilipino


1. Pre–sikolohiyang Pilipino — characterized by
the psychology in the Philippines being largely
based on Western ideas on the subject
2. Rise of sikolohiyang Pilipino — reflects a
paradigm shift away from a Westernized focus
on behaviorism and use of the experimental
method toward a more indigenized
understanding of the Filipino. 12
