Importance of forest for the living beings
We depend on forests for our survival, from the air
we breathe to the wood we use. Besides providing
habitats for animals and livelihoods for humans,
forests also offer watershed protection, prevent soil
erosion and mitigate climate change. Yet, despite our
dependence on forests, we are still allowing them to
disappear. Largest storehouses of carbon. They
provide ecosystem services that are critical to human
welfare.
RESEARCH ON RICH FAUNA AND FLORA OF
ARUNACHAL PRADESH

The state hosts 20% of the

country's fauna, 4500 species of
flowering plants, 400 species of
pteridophytes, 23 species of
conifers, 35 species of bamboo, 20
species of canes and 52
rhododendron species.
ENDANGERED SPECIES OR EXTINCT
SPECIES
An endangered species is a type of organism that is
threatened by extinction. Species become
ENDANGERED endangered for two main reasons: loss of habitat
SPECIES and loss of genetic variation. A loss of habitat can
happen naturally. Nonavian dinosaurs, for
instance, lost their habitat about 65 million years
ago.
When a species becomes extinct, all its genetic heritage is lost. The
EXTINCT species evolve into new species in order to adapt to the
environmental changes or changes in the genetic heritage.
SPECIES Over 99% of all the species that once lived on the Earth, amounting
to over five billion species, are estimated to be extinct. As per the
estimations on the number of current species, a range from 10 -14
million, of which more than 1.2 million have been studied and more
than 86% have not yet been discovered.
STEPS TAKEN BY THE
GOVERNMENT TO SAVE THEM.
Creation of Sanctuaries, National Parks,
Conservation Reserves, Community Reserves,
and Tiger Reserves, for conservation and
protection of wildlife and its habitats. ii.
Providing financial assistance under Centrally
Sponsored Schemes viz. 'Development of
Wildlife Habitats', 'Project Tiger' and 'Project
Elephant.
