What should a pregnancy plate look like?

The most important and delicate time in mother’s life is the


nine months that she spends being pregnant. Every mother
wishes to have a healthy baby but this not always the case. A
normal diet won’t help a mother get a healthy baby. A well
balanced diet is utmost during the time of pregnancy as it
directly affects the growing baby inside the mother’s womb.

A balanced diet sets the foundation for the fetus. Her plate
should have all different kinds of nutrients that are needed to
stay healthy. Different variety of foods that she needs to stay
healthy are:

1) Vegetables: Vegetables play a pivotal role as they act as


a nutrient powerhouse containing different vitamins and
minerals. They are great source of fibre and help in
digestion. It is important part of diet because it helps in
the development of cells and provides iron which is
important for the red blood cell production.

2) Dairy products: Dairy is one of the most important


sources to gain calcium. It contains nutrients like
calcium, potassium, magnesium and phosphorous. It
helps in development of tissues and bones that are
needed for the support system for the fetus. During
pregnancy, the mother's body prioritizes providing
calcium to the developing fetus, and consuming
dairy helps meet this increased demand.

3) Proteins: The mother must eat food that contains


protein in abundance as this is vital during the time of
pregnancy. It helps in ensuring that her muscles are
strong and work efficiently. This also helps in making
haemoglobin. The haemoglobin transfers all the
nutrients to the growing baby so more amount of
haemoglobin she has the supply increases. It also helps
for the growth and the formation of new cells.

4) Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates act as an instant source


of energy. Excessive intake of carbohydrates can be
harmful as the body converts these carbohydrates into
fat which leads to obesity.

At the end diet plays a vital role in pregnancy as it acts as the


building blocks for the baby. A balanced diet can help in
managing pregnancy symptoms like nausea, fatig
ue, and constipation, ensuring a smoother journey for
the mother-to-be. Furthermore, it reduces the likelihood
of complications during childbirth, supports a healthy
weight gain, and aids in postpartum recovery. Embracing
a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole
grains, and adequate hydration lays the groundwork for
a healthy pregnancy, ensuring both the mother and
baby receive the vital nutrients essential for their well-
being.

A balanced diet plays a vital role in pregnancy as it acts as


the building blocks for the baby, it’s overall well-being and
reduces likelihood of complications during child birth.
