Experiment 7: Extraction

Objective:

The lab objective is to isolation and purification specific organic compounds, extraction is
a primary method for separating and purifying desired organic compounds from complex
mixtures, such as reaction mixtures.

Introduction:

Extraction allows you to transfer the target compound from a large volume of the original
solution into a smaller volume of a different solvent, effectively concentrating it.

Materials:

• Lab book
• Five tea bags
• Sodium sulfate ( anhydrous)
• Dichloromethane or ethyl
• Ethanol
• 200-mL
