The main function of Skid Mounted Engine Driven Fire Pump is to supply water open source
and to extinguish fires of carbonaceous materials such as paper, wood, textiles,
inflammable liquids, inflammable gas in oil field area etc.
2.2 Fire Pump shall be of proven design, compact and robust for operation under adverse /
extreme tropical environment / condition.
2.4 The operation and maintenance of the Fire Pump shall be user friendly.
2.5 Any other accessories not covered in the specification, but necessary for smooth
operation of the unit for the intended purpose shall also be provided along with the unit.
3.2 Fire Pump shall be designed in accordance with NFPA 20 / EN standard. The pump shall
have UL Listed / CE Mark.
4.2 Minimum Performance for Fire Pump shall be 2250 LPM output at 8.8 Kg/Cm2 Pressure
with 3 meter suction lift.
4.3 The primers of Fire Pump shall be capable of lifting water from at least 7.0 m (measured
vertically from water level to the center of suction eye of the pump at NTP) in not more
than 24 seconds Allowances for output & lift shall be as per IS: 944.
4.4 The pump shall run continuously for a period of 4 hours delivering rated output at 3
meter lift and at 8.8 kg/cm2.
5.1 Engine:-
5.1.1 The diesel engine shall be 4 stroke, 4 cylinders, open circuit water cooled with Electrical
starter and suitable for above pump performance. The diesel engine shall be capable of
minimum 70 BHP at max. 3000 RPM power to give rated performance of the pump.
5.1.2 Engine shall have provided reliable and quick starting of the engine.
5.1.3 Engine shall be Kirlosker / Cummins/ Volvo/ Caterpillar/Ashok Leyland / Tata / Mahindra
& Mahindra / Eicher make.
5.1.4 Radiator with Fan and Heat Exchanger shall be provided in front of engine.
5.1.5 Engine exhaust shall be arranged so as to discharge as far as possible away from
pump operating position.
5.1.6 Engine exhaust shall be fitted with PESO approved Spark Arrestor.
5.1.7 The air quality of Engine shall meet the applicable pollution norms.
5.1.8 A standard alternator of sufficient power to charge the battery and operate control
panel, flood light etc. shall be provided.
5.2 PUMP:-
5.2.1 The pump shall be single/multi stage centrifugal pump coupled to the engine with
clutch and gear arrangement for engaging and disengaging of engine.
5.2.2 The impeller shall be dynamically balanced and designed in such a way to offer easy
access to the same.
5.2.4 An easily accessible drain plug shall be provided at the bottom of the pump casing to
facilitate complete drainage of the pump casing as & when required.
5.2.5 The Pump shall have suction inlet of minimum 100 mm dia, 02 (two) numbers of
delivery outlets of 63mm each with screw down valve. (IS: 902) with blank cap and
another outlet of 100 mm with female coupling with lugs & control valve arrangement.
5.2.6 The pump shall not show any sign of leakage, when subjected to a hydraulic pressure
of 21 kg/cm².
5.2.7 During the test mentioned in Clause 4.4 the liquid in the engine cooling system shall
not be replaced and the temperature of engine lubricating oil shall not exceed the
specified value of the manufacturer.
5.2.8 The inlet of the pump shall be protected with stainless steel or brass filter to prevent
entry of grit and other materials.
5.2.9 The pump shall be of Firefly / Kirloskar / Godiva / Mather & Platt / Magirus / Greaves
/ Rosen Bauer / Lubi make.
5.3 PRIMER:
5.0.1 The pump shall be provided with an Automatic Primatic priming system and an
Exhaust Gas Ejector priming system manually operated by a lever. The primers shall
be capable of lifting water from 7 m in 24 sec under NTP conditions. The Primers and
its other body material and connecting pipe shall be of SS for Primatic priming system.
In case of exhaust ejector priming system the venturi & fulcrum rod shall be of
stainless steel, rest of the parts shall be made of cast iron.
5.4.1 An open type cooling system with suitable heat exchanger shall be provided to
maintain the correct engine operating temp as specified by the engine manufacturer.
5.5 TRANSMISSION:-
5.5.1 The assembly of pump and engine shall be as compact as possible and Gear &
Clutch arrangement shall be incorporated between the pump and engine for
engaging and disengaging pump from engine. The engine and pump should be
mounted on anti-vibration mounting so as to reduce vibration to a minimum.
5.6.1 It shall be of adequate capacity for minimum continuous run of at least 4 hrs.
Without refueling.
5.7.1 The Fire Pump shall be provided with an ignition switch for self-starter. The pump
shall be fitted with LED Flood light of minimum 20 Watt. Alternator shall be provided
for charging the battery. Battery of 12 V shall be provided for self-starter operation of
minimum 250 watts, 90 AH. The battery shall be compact and maintenance free type
Kirloskar/ Exide/ Ameron / Panasonic / SF Sonic / TATA make.
5.7.2 The electrical equipment starter, alternator shall be suitably protected against
weather specifically from rain.
Control Panel shall be covered with suitable all weather protection cover.
5.9 MOUNTING:-
5.9.1 The pump & engine shall be mounted on skid. Four lifting hook shall be provided to
facilitate the lifting and lowering by crane.
5.9.2 Provision shall be provided to lift the Fire unit by Fork Lifter.
5.10.1 Platform used for mounting of pump shall be vibration free, strong and long lasting.
The frame shall be of heavy Mild Steel section.
5.10.3 The control panel shall be mounted on the frame work and comprise of a Delivery
Pressure gauge ( 0 to 15 bars), a compound gauge ( -1.0 to 7 bars), ammeter for
monitoring battery condition & ignition switch.
5.11 CANOPY:
Foldable and detachable metallic canopy with frame support shall be provided for weather
protection for Engine & Pump. Two openable windows with stand one at each side of pump
& Engine shall be provided.

8.0 MARKING
Fire Pump unit shall be clearly and permanently marked with the following preferably on a
metal plate attached at the rear pump skid / operating control panel.
9.0 TOOLS:
The following tools shall be provided in strong rigid tool box.
Inspection shall be carried in conformity with the specification, approved drawing and
standard specified in the specification.
ii. Check dimensions of fabricated components as per specifications & approved drawings.
iv. Check welding procedure, welder qualifications as per relevant ASME codes / standard.
ix. Check completeness of equipment for any deficiency in quantity to standard quality
or non- conformation to specification should be rechecked.
xi. Check operation of various levers, locks, and caps, fitment, markings and plumbing work.
11.0 TESTING:
PERFORMANCE TESTING:
The following performance test shall be carried out at vendor’s site as per the performance of
pump and primer as per clause 4.0.
The Pump shall be run for a period of 04 (four) hours non-stop delivering the rated output
with a lift of 3 meter at sea level with NTP conditions. During the test all parameter like
cooling system, temperature of the engine, oil temperature shall match as per manufacturer’s
recommendation.
c. The pump casing and impeller shall be subjected to a hydraulic pressure 21 Kg/Cm2
to detect leakage performance etc.
The primer shall be capable of lifting water at least 7 meter in less than 24 seconds.
iii. A test certificate along with the results shall be provided by the vendor during
inspection of Fire Pumps.
12.0 Nil
13.0 DOCUMENTATION
i. Certification that the pump and skid has been designed manufactured and tested to
meet the specified requirement.
The standard of workmanship & finish of all mechanical & other parts shall be such that
the parts normally required to be replaced can be supplied and will fit in correctly.
14.1 All forging and casting shall be sound and free from pits, blowholes. Scales, cracks
and other imperfection and shall not be repaired or filled so as to hide casting defects.
All burrs and sharp edges shall be removed and / or rounded and made smooth.
14.2 Complete unit shall be painted with fire red paint (Shade No. 536 of IS: 5) finished in
natural colour, varnished or polished.
14.3 Fluorescent paint/marking must be made on body for easy identification during dark.
14.4 All exposed ferrous metal surfaces except chrome plated or of stainless steel shall
be thoroughly cleaned, primed (2 coats of primer) & painted with the fire red colour
to shade No.536 of IS: 5.the paint shall conform to IS: 2932.
14.5 The TFT of film thickness should be at least 140 micron after applying two coats of
primer & two coats of paint. The paint used for this purpose should be of make
Burger/Asian/Nerolac.
15.0 DATA SHEET: All information in the data sheet shall be furnished completely by the
Vendor along with the BID – As per Annexure I
a. Fire Pump Identification part list (IPL) / Spare Parts with price of each item, giving detail
such as material, dimensions, exploded illustration.
b. User Hand Book (UHB) covering operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of
equipment.
c. Detailed as built drawings.
Vendor shall arrange all the necessary testing facilities including consumables/stores for
checking the performance of the Fire Pump free of cost and test reports will be duly signed,
dated & stamped by the ONGC Inspection Team and representative of the vendor.
After issue of NOA, Vendor / Manufacturer shall submit the detailed dimensional drawings and
Technical details for approval.
19.1.1 Manufacturer must satisfy first that the stores manufactured are in accordance with
the contract and fully conform to the specification by carrying out thorough pre
inspection before actually offering the same for inspection to the Quality Assurance
Officer.
19.1.2 A Declaration by the contractor that necessary pre-inspection/ tests have been
carried out on the stores tendered and the same are fit for inspection & test shall be
rendered along with challan. The declaration shall include the method followed in
pre inspection showing features checked/ tested and observed values will be
recorded and the delivery challan will be accompanied by the test reports.
19.1.3 If the QAD finds that pre inspection of the consignment as required above has not
been carried out, the consignment is liable for rejection.
19.2 Inspection/testing shall be carried out in conformance to the various parameters of
the specification by ONGC authorized inspection agency.
19.3 QAP (Quality Assurance Plan) shall be submitted by the bidder
(vendor/manufacturer) for approval of the indenter/user. Inspection shall be as per
prevailing standard industrial practices
19.3.1 Performance parameters to be verified as per clause 4.0
19.3.2 Material Test certificates of the components shall be provided.
19.3.3 Hydro pressure test as recommended.
Vendor shall provide warranty & guarantees for Complete Fire Pump Unit as per ONGC laid
down procedure.
