BS Architecture 5-4 Assessment No. 1

1. Give some instances from your community of how principles for community
empowerment have been applied. Attach images / illustrations.

Answer:

1. The development of Arca South

- Arca South is steadily developing into the latest central business district south of
Makati and Bonifacio Global City. With more than 1,500 residential units already
handed over and plans for a skyway connector and the Taguig Integrated Terminal
Exchange (TITX) underway, Santos Knight Frank forecasts a significant rise in
commercial real estate activities over the next three years as more office spaces
become available. In total, around 344,000 square meters of office space are
expected to be launched in Arca South between 2022 and 2025 (Gonzales, 2022).
- A city in Sync – A concept Ayala Land wants to imply. They mentioned that to be
able to manage a real estate effectively, there should be security, access to
transportation, traffic management, open and green spaces, as well as functional
establishments like commercial and office spaces. Ayala Land is promoting
sustainability through the integration of the built and natural environment while
promoting a community that is low-density, yet full of life, and accessible for all (Lara,
2019).

2. Community Clean-up

- The Department of Science and Technology-National Capital Region (DOST-NCR)

has partnered with the local government of Taguig City and other agencies to clean
Conga Creek for a healthier metropolitan environment.
- Conga Creek, spanning 300 meters in Taguig, has dangerously high coliform levels
of 28 billion MPN/100ml and no oxygen, far exceeding international standards of less
than 10 MPN. This extreme pollution prevents any fish from surviving due to
competition with bacteria.
- As part of the DENR's Adopt an Estero Program, this effort not only aims to clean the
creek but also to empower communities through the DOST Community
Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) program. This initiative
improves living conditions via interventions in health, sanitation, education, livelihood,
and disaster risk reduction (DOST, 2019).

3. Scholarship Programs

- The Supreme Court's recent decision to transfer 10 disputed barangays from Makati
City to Taguig City has given residents renewed hope. The Taguig City government
promptly announced plans to extend various benefits, including an inclusive
scholarship program, to these barangays. This initiative aims to provide equal
educational opportunities and improve residents' lives.
- Taguig City is committed to offering financial support to students, ranging from
P15,000 to P50,000 per year, depending on the scholarship type. This assistance
helps reduce tuition and other fees, enabling students to pursue their academic goals
without financial stress. By investing in education, Taguig City shows its dedication to
nurturing well-educated and empowered individuals who can positively impact
society.
- Taguig's approach to community development fosters unity and addresses the needs
of all residents, regardless of their previous jurisdiction. This program is expected to
pave the way for a brighter future for these barangays and inspire other local
governments to adopt similar measures of inclusivity and equal opportunity.
