CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Time management is a crucial skill for academic success and personal
development, and identifying the specific challenges faced by senior
high school students can provide valuable insights into improving their
academic performance and overall well- being.
The objectives of this study is to identify the specific time
management challenges faced by the Grade 12 GAS students, Explore
the underlying Factors contributing to these challenges, Investigate the
role of external factors, propose evidence -based on strategies and
intervention to address these hindrances, and lastly examine the
impact of performance, overall well-being and stressed level.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
1. Demographic profile of students:
a) Name
b) Age
c) Section
d) Gender
2. What is the relationship between extracurricular commitments (sports,
clubs, part - time jobs) and time management difficulties among senior
high school students, and how does this impact their overall well-being?
3. What are the hindrances that encountered by the grade 12 GAS students
in managing their time?
4. What are the strategies that can be applied by the grade 12 GAS
students in order to manage their time properly?
5. How do differences in study environment, such as home versus school,
correlate with time management challenges among senior high school
students?
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

prioritizing, and organizing one's activities and tasks within a
specific timeframe to achieve goals and maximize
productivity.
•Hindrances: Obstacles, challenges, or factors that impede
or hinder the effective management of time, thereby affecting
academic performance and overall well-being.
•Academic Performance: The measurable outcomes of a
student's learning and educational achievements, typically
assessed through grades, test scores, and other academic
evaluations
DEFINITION OF TERMS
•Correlational Study: A research method aimed at
determining whether and to what extent there is a
relationship between two or more variables, in this case,
exploring the correlation between hindrances on time
management and academic performance among Grade 12
GAS students.
•Extracurricular Commitments: Activities undertaken by
students outside of their regular academic curriculum, such
as sports, clubs, or part-time jobs, which may require time
and effort and potentially affect time management and

REVIEW OF RELATED
LITERATURE
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
FOREIGN STUDY
Poor prioritization skills, leading.individuals to allocate
disproportionate time to less important tasks (Smith et al., 2018).
Most students struggle with their assignments or submitting them on
time due to these situations, which negatively affect their academic
performance. Moreover, students are often engrossed in their social
media, and a study highlights the prevalence of technological
distractions such as notifications and social media as a prominent
obstacle to effective time utilization (Jones, 2019).
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
LOCAL LITERATURE
The influence of time management on student attendance,
project deadlines, and personal priorities is emphasized as
some areas are given more attention as students allocate
adequate time to address them (Fulgencio, 2020).
According to one study, student participants have found
creating daily checklists for their tasks to be an effective
strategy (Paguio, 2019).

CONCLUSION
RESULT & FINDING
The study sheds light on Grade 12 GAS students' demographics
and time management practices. It reveals a diverse age range
among respondents, with a slight female majority. Many students
are actively involved in extracurricular activities and part-time
jobs, indicating a multifaceted approach to personal growth.

It highlights the challenges of balancing academic and

extracurricular commitments. While some prioritize academics,
others prioritize extracurriculars, with many struggling to find a
balance. This underscores the need for tailored time management
strategies.
RESULT & FINDING
Extracurricular commitments significantly impact students' time
management, with family responsibilities being a common
hindrance. Many students find time management challenging,
reflecting the pervasive struggle to allocate time effectively
amidst competing demands.

In summary, the study emphasizes the importance of recognizing

and addressing the diverse needs and challenges faced by Grade
12 GAS students. It calls for personalized and holistic approaches
to support students in managing academic and extracurricular
responsibilities, fostering their overall development
RECOMENDATION
The study recommends students to prioritize tasks based on
their needs and use tools like planners. Seeking support
from teachers or peers can help in developing personalized
time management strategies.

Parents should acknowledge the impact of extracurricular

activities and offer guidance in setting goals. They should
validate their children's experiences and help them
navigate responsibilities effectively.
RECOMENDATION
Schools and teachers can enhance students' time
management skills through workshops and flexible
classroom expectations. Offering mentorship to struggling
students is crucial for better organization and prioritization.

Tailored approaches are needed to support students in

managing their responsibilities effectively. Open
communication and empathy are key in creating a
supportive environment for students to seek assistance and
succeed academically.
