PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY:

1 This question paper consists of 22 pages and an Information Sheet of 2 pages. Please check that
your paper is complete.
2 Read the questions carefully.
3 Answer all the questions.
4 Number your answers exactly as the questions are numbered.
5 You may use an approved non-programmable and non-graphical calculator unless otherwise
stated.
6 Clearly show ALL calculations, diagrams, graphs, etc. that you have used in determining your
answers.
Answers only will NOT necessarily be awarded full marks.
7 Diagrams are not necessarily drawn to scale.
8 If necessary, round off answers to ONE decimal place, unless otherwise stated.
9 It is in your own interest to write legibly and to present your work neatly.
10 Three blank pages (pages 20-22) are included at the end of the paper. If you run out of space for
a question, use these pages. Clearly indicate the question number of your answer should you
use this extra space.

c) Tshegofatso draws lines on a rectangular piece of paper according to the following
instructions:
• Each new line needs to cut the previous line.
• No line can pass through the intersection of previous lines.

The diagrams show how the first four lines are drawn. As Tshegofatso draws the lines, he divides
the paper into different parts. He needs to colour each part with a different colour. For example,
after four lines, he needs 11 colours. How many colours will he need after 𝑛 lines?

3) Sketch the graphs of 𝑓 and ℎ on the same set of axes. Only show on your
graphs the coordinates of the turning point of 𝒇 and the 𝒚-intercept of 𝒉.
Clearly show the asymptotes, if there are any, by means of dotted lines. The
graphs need not to be according to scale. (5)
