breach, the Centre and the
National Testing Agency,
which conducts NEET-UG,
recently informed the apex

Ashada Bonalu celebra-
tions commenced on a
grand note at Golconda
fort here on Sunday.
The fort was trans-
formed into a festival
venue, as thousands of
devotees gathered to
invoke the blessings of
Goddess Jagadambika
Yellamma Talli, marking
the auspicious commence-
ment of the festivities.
The stone walls of the
fort reverberated with
sounds of traditional
drums and music, as devo-
tees trekked their way to
the Yellamma Talli temple,
located around halfway to
the fort.
The celebrations began
early in the morning with
the temple priests per-
forming rituals at the tem-
ple.
From around 8 am devo-
tees, especially women,
arrived at the temple with
the ceremonial Bonam in
hand. Bonam, a ritualistic
meal consisting of rice,
jaggery, curd, and other

Sree Krishna.

sion from NTR Stadium to
the Lord Jagannath tem-
ple in the General Bazaar,
with Chief Minister A.
Revanth Reddy participat-
ing in the programme.
Other temples also organ-
ised processions in a
grand manner.
The festival was also cel-
ebrated by the Sri
Jagannath Swamy
Ramgopal Trust that has
been organising the rath
yatra for 130 years, and the
Sri Jagannath temple in
Road No. 12, Banjara Hills.
The rath yatra is the
annual journey of Lord
Jagannath, Lord Balab-
hadra and Devi Subhadra.
In Puri, where the main
celebration is held, the
deities travel from Srim-
andir to Srigundicha tem-
ple, and return after nine
days. The rath yatra is
replicated a several places.
People wearing tradi-
tional attire and tilaks on
their foreheads similar to
the ones believed to have
been worn by Lord Kris-
hna, chanted slogans, and
walked along with the
teams that was cleared
earlier. A team that fin-
ished at the bottom last
season has been promoted
to the three-day league,

ber. The apex council had
decided not to go about
promotions and demo-
tions of teams this season.

goli on which the chariot
rolled.

at the NTR Stadium carry-

rath yatra.

town,” she said.

KTR CLAIMS CREDIT

tiative of the BRS government
to treat 100 per cent of sewer-
age generated by the city with
an outlay of `3,866 had borne
fruit.
The increase in capacity to
treat 2,000 million litres a day
(MLD) of sewerage meant that
the city was the first in India
to be treating 100 per cent of
its sewerage.
In a post on X, he said,
“Happy and proud to share
that our planning and efforts
are paying off. The efforts of
KCR are bearing fruit. This
was planned as a first step
towards Musi river rejuvena-
tion and subsequent beautifi-
cation for which global design
tenders also had been called.”

for raping a minor.

Speaking at a meeting of
United Teachers’ Federation
(UTF) here, he thanked the
state government for complet-
ing promotions of teachers
much before the commence-
ment of the academic year.
Thousands of teacher posts
fell vacant after promotions in
the education department. In
the promotions process, some
of secondary grade teachers
(SGTs) became eligible for
school assistant posts in two
or three subjects which has
created non-joining posts in
the department, he added.
He suggested the state gov-
ernment fill up non-joining
posts with eligible teachers in
the current promotions
process that will avoid the
shortage of teachers in the
government-run schools.
He also urged the govern-
ment to immediately appoint
scavengers and service per-
sons in all the government
schools. He wanted the state
government to waive the dues
of electricity bills of schools,
which were being run by local
authorities.

Starmer was not the type

on fire, but he is way
more charismatic than
smart Rishi Sunak.
Starmer’s real work in
the foreseeable future
will be at home. He has to
focus on employment,
education, healthcare,
public infrastructure and
government finances.
As for Britain’s place in
the world, like for so
many other countries,
what it does at home will
determine what it can do
overseas. To begin with,
it is unlikely that Britain
can reverse the clock on
Brexit. It will wait to see
the results of the elec-
tions in the United States
to get a measure of the
future of its so-called
“special relationship”
with America.
Managing China and
Russia will remain an
area of major concern.
Hence, in the Indo-Pacific
region, Starmer can be
expected to stay the
course set by his Cons-

attacked Mr Bejawada
and stabbed him repeat-
edly with a knife.
The students who wit-
nessed the stabbing said
the teacher asked him to
leave and shouted at him
when he did not listen.
“He took out a knife
and struck the teacher
on the head and stabbed
him. We did not know he
was carrying a knife.
Our teacher was on the
floor and bleeding heavi-
ly,” the students said.
The teacher was rushed
to Dibrugarh, but died
on the way to the hospi-
tal. The incident has
come as a shock for
teachers who expressed
surprise over the inci-
dent and held growing
intolerance among stu-
dents responsible for the
incident. Expressing
deep anguish, teachers
said that such incidents
are alarming as disci-
pline was necessary to
groom students for the
future. Bejawada was a
resident of Andhra
Pradesh and was work-
ing as the in-charge teac-
her of the Sai Vikash
Academy in Sivasagar.

Lanka says won’t

Colombo, July 7: Sri
Lanka has decided to lift
from next year a ban on
the visit of foreign resea-
rch ships imposed after
strong security concerns
raised by India and the
US following frequent
docking requests from hi-
tech Chinese surveillance
vessels, the Japanese me-
dia reported.
The change in position
was conveyed by visiting
Sri Lankan foreign minis-
ter Ali Sabry to the NHK
World Japan. With the
increased movement of
Chinese research vessels
in the Indian Ocean, New
Delhi had expressed con-
cern that those might be
spy ships and urged Colo-
mbo not to allow such ves-
sels to dock at its ports.
After India raised con-
cern, Sri Lanka banned
the entry of foreign rese-
arch vessels from docking
at its port in January.
Earlier this year, it had
made an exception for a
Chinese vessel but said
the ban would continue
otherwise. Sabry said his
government cannot have
different rules for differe-
nt countries and only blo-
ck China.
He added that his coun-

one uses it. Genetic testing can also be
a dicey tool for early specialisation,

efits. “But is it a foolproof system?
