SUBJECT AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY GRAD 10

E
TERM 2 WEEK
1
TOPIC ENERGY
LESSON  At the end of the lesson the learners should understand the following concepts:
OBJECTIVES  Electrical energy 12-volt DC current
 Basic principles of electrical energy: Current, Ampere, Resistance and Potential Difference
 Standard symbols and units: Volt, Ohm and Ampere
 Basic calculations.
 Basic components in a car's ignition system. (Operation and function)

SOURCES  Handbook - based sources:

 Agricultural Technology grade 10 learner's book.
INTRODUCTION  Learning content covered in Grades 8 and 9 Agricultural Studies must link in with the current content that will now be
covered:
 Basic 12 Volt DC Electrical Energy
 The purpose of this lesson is to expose the learner to the basic concepts of electrical energy and to understand the
ignition system of a motor vehicle.
CONCEPTS AND Electrical energy 12-volt DC current.
SKILLS Basic principles of electrical energy:
 Units and symbols:
 Current - flow of electrons from one point to another.
 Ampere- symbol I
 Resistance - each conductor offers specific resistance to the flow of electrons - Ohm
 Voltage - the electrical pressure to overcome the resistance of conductor - volt - symbol V.
 Potential difference - one pole is more positively charged than the other and since electrons flow from a negative to a
positive charge the charge still exists after the connection is broken.

 Ohm's law:
Current flowing is proportional to supply voltage and inversely proportional to resistance.

1
 The magic triangle for calculations.

 Simple calculations:
To determine resistance, voltage and current.

Basic components in a car's ignition system. (Operation and function)

2
ACTIVITY/  Teacher must provide a view examples of basic calculations
ASSESSMENT  Learners use previous papers to complete the part of the work.
CONSOLODATIO  The lesson covered all the content as required by the CAPS.
N  The learners understand all the concepts and concepts and content.
