Computers have become part of modern and new generation society and they have a wide uses
across various fields. They are used to type documents, send emails, play music, browse the
internet, create presentations, event invitations, and listen to music or watch videos.

Computers are used in education for interactive learning, online courses, research and accessing
educational resources. They also play a role in virtual classrooms and remote learning
environments. Computers have a profound impact on education. They are used in various
educational instituted like schools, colleges and big universities. Computers are used to aid the
learning process of students. Teachers in schools and professors in colleges take the help of
audio-visual techniques to prepare lesson plans for children. For example they use Microsoft
PowerPoint to prepare electronic presentations. Computers can also be used for online
education and research. Students can find useful information about their projects and
assignments.

One of the most important uses of computers is communication. The computer has made the
world a global village. Everyone is connected with the other. In the past people travel a lot of
distances even distances of months to meet their relatives but now computers provide the

DIECD EITE 612 ASSIGNMENT 3 2024

In conclusion, computers have significantly changed the way society works and performs
certain tasks. Several examples of this can be seen in education, business, entertainment and
hospitals. Simply daily everyday jobs would be impossible to complete without the aid of
computers.

QUESTION 2

Assess any four (4) shortcomings of storing information in a computer. (30 marks)
Storing information in a computer has become an integral part of the modern life. However, this
method of information storage is not without its shortcomings. This essay will assess four
significant limitations of storing information in a computer.
Storing information in a computer exposes it to various cyber security threats such as hacking,
malware, and data breaches. Without robust security measures, sensitive data stored in a
computer is at risk of unauthorized access and exploitation. There are several types of storage
used in computers that is primary storage also known as volatile memory or main memory. It
is used to store data that the computer is currently working on. This type of storage is generally
fast and provides quick access to data. However, it is volatile, meaning that the data is lost
when the computer is turned off.
Computers are susceptible to hardware failures, software errors, power outages, and accidental
deletion, leading to potential data loss and corruption if proper back up measures are not in
place. Inadequate backup system and failure to regularly maintain hardware can result in
irretrievable loss of critical information. Storing information in a computer is contingent upon
continuous power supply and functioning technology. Power outages or technological
obsolescence can render stored information inaccessible, highlighting the dependency on
external factors for data retrieval.
Unlike traditional paper based storage, computers and storage devices have a limited physical
lifespan. Hard drives, solid-state drives, and other storage media can degrade over time,
potentially leading to the loss of stored information. Information stored in computers can be
susceptible to corruption due to software bugs, hardware issues or improper shutdown
procedures. As technology evolves, order file formats and storage methods may become
obsolete, leading to compatibility issues and potential loss of access to stored information.
In conclusion, while storing information in a computer offers numerous advantages in terms of
accessibility and organization, it is essential to acknowledge the inherent shortcomings
associated with this method and implement appropriate measures to migrate the associated
risks.
