X Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

X Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast,
posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an
outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:

This is a teacher-led, project-based lesson that requires students to design a video presentation using
Canva to demonstrate their knowledge of physical and chemical changes. To start, I will give a brief
overview of the lesson and activities that will be completed. Following shortly after, I will state the
goals and objectives of the lesson. The goals and objectives will also be provided on the handout
sheet students will be given explaining the assignment instructions. Together, we will go over the
handout and I will present students with an example video using Canva so they can get an idea of
what is expected. Students will have an opportunity to ask any questions before starting the
assignment. Students will be put into pairs (one group of 3 if the class is uneven) to design a
storyboard/outline covering physical and chemical changes. Students will then begin creating their
Canva video. As students are working, I will walk around the classroom to observe, answer questions,
and provide feedback as needed. When students have completed their video, they will digitally
submit it to me and present their video in front of the class.

Managing student learning:

The tools used for this lesson requires students to apply knowledge through video software where students
will be able to actively engage and reflect on their learning. Not only is engagement created through designing
a video, but also through peer interaction as students will be paired together. Students are highly encouraged
to create a storyboard/outline before officially beginning their video. If students have any questions regarding
the assignment and/or content, they are welcome to ask a partner before asking me for additional help. As I
walk around the classroom, I will make sure that all students stay on task.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.

This lesson idea supports UDL’s Engagement and Representation principles. Students will actively
participate in a partnering activity allowing for peer engagement and interaction. Students will create
their video through Canva which provides students with multiple accommodating features. While
students must create their video through Canva, they are able to design it however they would like,
making it unique to them.

Reflection:

I think that students will actively engage in this activity through partner work and creativity. Students
have the option of creating their Canva video any way they choose allowing for engagement in
content. As students will work with a partner, they will receive peer interaction. I look forward to
seeing how well students communicate and display their knowledge through their Canva videos.
